We had an exiting evening here at the Wright house one of our buildings electric meters decided to catch on fire while we were eating dinner. Thanks to the neighbors that all brought fire extinguishers to help slow the fire down till the fire department showed up. Out of 8 fire extinguishers 2 were outa date and did not work despite looking brand new. Do yourself a favor and keep fresh in date fire extinguishers you never know when you will really need them. Luckily we only have to rebuild the last 8’ of roof and end wall it could have been really bad. Surprisingly we were called by our electrical provider when we sat down for dinner and ask me if we had a power outage because there meter stopped working 20 minutes before that’s when I walked out to find it on fire otherwise it would have burned completely down before we would have seen it. What a way to end 2023.

Rockin W Smokers eased over to Gilmer Tx for the Risk It For The Brisket contest this weekend dragging Bbq Pimpmaster Richard Layne to help. When the smoke settled we ended up with 8th chicken, 3rd rib, 1st brisket & 3rd overall. Not bad considering we have only cooked 1-2 competitions a year for the last several years.

Rockin W Smokers made the trip up to the 2022 American Royal competition with over 500 teams and brought back some hardware. Our best category this year ended up being 11th place Desert with a score of 180 earning us that coveted 180 pin. The judges didn’t like our bbq as much and it looks like we need to start cooking more than 3 contest a year like the we have done last two years.
