Rio Piedra Plantation As the only three time recipient of the Orvis Endorsed Lodge of the Year award, Rio Piedra Plantatio

Located alongside the picturesque banks of the Flint River in the heart of Georgia’s Plantation Belt, Rio Piedra Plantation combines an unparalleled commitment to exceptional wing shooting with wonderful accommodations. By day guests enjoy the unrivaled quail hunting only found in Rio’s Longleaf pine forests and gentle rolling wiregrass meadows. The sporting experience here is unlike any other
quail hunting you’ve known and harkens back to a more genteel era- wingshooting as it once was, when sportsmen matched wits with wild birds in their native environs. Challenging quail hunting remains alive at Rio Piedra Plantation. When not in the field guests are treated to equally magnificent experiences. Here in the Deep South, Chef Dirk Flachsmeir delivers both classic Southern delicacies and traditional European dishes that rival that of the finest urban establishments. Away from the table you can enjoy relaxing amenities and roaring fireplaces perfectly suited for sharing the tales of the day- perfectly suited for strengthening old bonds and build new ones. Impeccable hunting, gracious service, fine dining and well-appointed accommodations- just some of the reasons why award winning Rio Piedra Plantation provides an experience like no other.

The countdown is on. Just four days until the start of another quail season at Rio Piedra Plantation.

The grounds are ready, the dogs are eager, and our team is looking forward to welcoming familiar faces and new friends alike for another season of exceptional wingshooting and Southern hospitality.

The work behind a great quail season begins long before opening day.

Throughout the offseason, our team at Rio Piedra has been hard at work managing the habitat that makes this landscape such exceptional bobwhite country.

Through prescribed fire and careful stewardship, we've encouraged healthier, denser stands of native grasses and improved cover for bobwhite quail.

And the results are showing. As Field Operations Manager, Drew Blackburn recently put it, “The cover is immaculate right now.”

With birds calling across the plantation and opening day just around the corner, we're looking forward to another memorable season afield.

We hope to welcome you this season.

Chef Houston is ready to serve you.

As we count down the days to opening season, the kitchen at Rio Piedra is already coming to life. Executive Chef Christian Houston recently prepared this barramundi with Sea Island red peas, farro, shiitakes, butternut squash, roasted fennel, pancetta and garden vegetables, finished with a white w**e and caper sauce.

A taste of what’s waiting when you return to Rio Piedra.

We've earned the Orvis Wingshooting Lodge of the Year Award three times-and we're proud of that. But here's what matters more: over 90% of our guests return year after year, not because of the accolades, but because Rio Piedra feels right.

While awards are an incredible honor… they recognize years of dedication to exceptional hunting, thoughtful hospitality, and an unwavering commitment to the guest experience.

The awards aren't what define Rio Piedra.

The real measure of who we are is found in the guests who return season after season. The familiar faces around the dinner table. The conversations by the fire after the dogs have settled in for the evening. The guides who remember your name before you step into the field.

World-class hunting may bring you here.
Feeling like you belong is what brings you back.
That's the tradition we're most proud to carry forward.

Most Hunter’s chase the perfect Hunt. Rio Piedra Hunters come back for something else.

The perfect hunt is unforgettable.
But the places that call you back year after year offer something more.

At Rio Piedra, it's found in the familiar faces waiting to welcome you. In woodsmen who remember how you like to hunt. In remarkable bird dogs working beneath the longleaf pines. Around a dinner table where stories grow richer with each passing season.

It's knowing that while every hunt is different, the feeling of coming back never changes.

That's what turns first-time guests into lifelong friends.
That's what makes Rio Piedra feel like home.

What keeps you returning to your favorite place in the field? We'd love to hear your story.

The first hints of fall have arrived in South Georgia.

A little cooler in the mornings. A little more anticipation in the air. And with every passing day, we’re getting closer to the sound of dogs in the field and coveys on the rise.

Our favorite season is almost here.

The coveys eventually settle. The stories never do.

At Rio Piedra, exceptional wingshooting is only part of the experience. It's the people you meet, the traditions you build, and the moments you'll find yourself revisiting long after the season ends.
