❤️ When tragedy strikes, love shows up.

Yesterday, our community and one of our very loyal customers experienced a heartbreak that words simply cannot make better.

But today, we’re being reminded of something incredibly special about this little town we call home.

We’ve watched people walk through the doors of Grind, not just for drinks and food, but to share love and kindness to those hurting. Small gestures, generous hearts, and people simply showing up for each other.

In moments like these, we’re reminded that community is so much more than a place we live. It’s the people who stand beside us when life gets hard.

This is what community looks like. And we’re grateful to witness it. ❤️

Today was a very difficult day for a lot of people in California, especially our educators and administrators at the California Schools. Hearts were heavy, some hearts were broken, and many went without eating while focusing on the well being of the students.

I’ll admit, social media today was so very disappointing to me and several I spoke with. Truthfully, it is a major contributor to many of the problems we need to discuss as a community. But that’s for another day.

Today, let us show our educators how much we love them. Call the local flower shops and send some flowers to administrative offices or individual classrooms of a teacher. Call the offices and find out what acceptable candies or snack trays can be dropped off for teachers lounges. Buy some gift cards to local restaurants or shops.

Maybe call the Grind here in town and send a teacher or group of teachers their favorite coffee (the Grind actually has a form teachers fill out and they know what they like.)

Can’t afford to buy something? Take some time and hand write some thank you letters or print some cards at home and sign them. Anything to show our support to the school and those who give their hearts to our students.

My mother is a retired special education administrator in Kentucky and my wife is a retired elementary school teacher from St James who has been substitute teaching at the elementary here over this past year. I know the heart of a teacher, and they give your children all they have. They love them and talk about them; in school, at the store, at church, and anywhere they see them. Days like today hurt them deeply, but they show up for your kids because your kids needed them today.

Market 573 shared the love today with “Petal It Forward.” 💐 Over 50 customers were given free flowers- one to keep and one to share, a beautiful act of kindness on a day where sunshine was needed. Thank you Amanda for loving on our customers extra today!

More than coffee- we love to be part of the community. Even more special, the community we grew up in.

Kids do say the darnedest things!
•One little girl asked me if I was a teenager. She quickly became my favorite of the day. 💁🏻‍♀️

•When educating the kiddos on the coffee cherry before announcing what the type of berry was, I asked the kids what it looked like. Lots of kids said grapes but I’ll never forget hearing a very proud answer- DINGLEBERRIES!” I could hardly hold back my laughter. 😂

• One little girl asked me who my partner was. I told her my husband was my partner. “Where is he?” I let her know he was working and then said “oh I know, you think I’m a teenager don’t you?” To which she quickly whipped her head around with a face and said “um, no. I do not think you are a teenager.” (And there it was- I got smacked down to reality real quick.🙃)

We officially have our 2026 class of Grind Junior Baristas- if you have a CES Kindergartener or 1st grader, ask them about their training today! It is really crazy to think some of these WILL be baristas for Grind someday. ❤️
