🐐 **A Little Update on Our Girls & Milking Life!
Our girls have been in milk for almost 8–9 months now, and with that much time in milk, it’s only natural for their production to start slowing down. Three of my girls are still nursing their babies, and in two of those cases, their kids are just about as tall as their mamas! 😂🐐
When I know I’m going to need extra milk, whether it’s for selling at the farm stand or making recipes that call for a good amount, I switch back to milking twice a day. It usually takes about 24–48 hours for the girls to get back into the routine. They absolutely LOVE a routine. Me? Not so much! 🤣
Right now, I’m getting around ¾ of a gallon of milk when milking twice a day, with seven goats milked in the morning and four in the evening. That might not sound like much to some people, but trust me, there’s a whole lot of work behind every drop! 🥛💪
Some days, I’m exhausted. Sometimes, all I want to do is go inside, take a shower, and call it a day. But then I look at those sweet little faces, and somehow, it makes all that time and energy feel worth it. ❤️
Having help in the barn makes such a difference, too. Homesteading is a lot of work, and having an extra set of hands can turn an exhausting chore into a much more enjoyable part of the day. (Or a yelling competition )
This is the side of farm life you don’t always see in the cute pictures. The early mornings, the evening chores, the tired feet, and all the work that goes into caring for our animals. But there’s also the bond, the routine, and the little moments that make it all worthwhile.
And around here, we wouldn’t trade those moments for anything. 🐐
Welcome to life on our little homestead! 🌿 🐓
