The Vu Villa: 1907 vs. 2026 Montana Tech Homecoming]
..

1907: A Saturday night in Butte, Montana.
..

A horse-drawn carriage clatters down Park Street and pulls up in front of Campana's grocery store.

A man climbs down, ties his horse to the hitching post, and steps inside to pick up a sack of flour and bag of coffee.

He runs into a neighbor. They complain about the weather and exchange a little gossip.

Before heading home, he stops next door at Campana's liquor store for a couple of bottles of Centennial b**r. Just 15 cents each (about $5.25 today).

Upstairs, the Campana children are getting ready for bed.

A lot has changed since then…

But...not REALLY....

[October 10, 2026: Montana Tech Homecoming in Butte.]

Montana Tech has just absolutely demolished MSU-Northern, 62 to nothing.

The day before it was sunny and 77 degrees. Today it's cold, rainy, gray, and downright miserable.

Typically unpredictable Butte weather.

But that isn't stopping anyone from heading to the Vu.

Alumni, students, and their parents in all imaginable shades of green Montana Tech hoodies are pouring through the doors.

Along with a few stragglers in T-shirts and shorts who apparently warmed up a little too much at the tailgate.

Some are here for pizza, others for a cold b**r or a drink, but all for a chance to catch up with friends.

People complain about the weather, exchange a little gossip, and celebrate the big win.

Although, let's be fair, they'd be here even if the Diggers lost.

And somewhere around closing time, groups of friends walk back up the hill, laughing about things that won't be funny at all in the morning.

Different century.
Same corner.
Same weather complaints.

Whether your Tech days are happening right now, were five years ago, or fifty, chances are you've got a Vu Villa story or two.

The b**r costs more these days (so does the coffee), but the memories are worth hanging onto, and don’t cost a thing.

And as always? The weather is still unpredictable.

And sadly, you can't buy a bag of coffee at the Vu Villa anymore.

And some patrons are definitely going to need it in the morning…(and so does that lady up on the balcony, let's be clear!)
