NEIGHBORS CORNER FEATURE: Darlene Grace Miller
We’re excited to introduce another amazing neighbor in our Neighbors Corner!
Meet Darlene Miller, an Iowa author whose books celebrate family, history, Iowa, and the stories that connect generations. You’ll find three of her books right here in the farmstand!
📖 Surviving Disasters and Finding Grace
Fiction
Follow Karen, a young woman from California, as she searches for her Iowa family in a future where society has lost access to electricity. As Karen and her family learn how to survive in rural Iowa, they find help and knowledge from their Amish and Mennonite neighbors. Along the way, a special relationship develops with an Iowa neighbor who helps Karen in her search for family.
📖 Bittersweet Memories of the 20th Century
Nonfiction / Memoir:
Darlene gathered true memories and stories from 30 people to take readers on a journey through the years 1900–1999. Inspired in part by boxes of memorabilia from her Dutch immigrant grandparents, this book captures the funny, touching, historical, and sometimes heartbreaking moments of everyday life throughout the 20th century.
📖 Callie and Natalie's Dutch Family History
Family History:
Join Callie and Natalie as they accompany their grandmother, Darlene, on a journey through their Dutch family history. Dressed in period clothing, they learn about their fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-great-grandparents—including ancestors who came to Pella in 1847—and other Dutch ancestors who immigrated in the early 1900s.
Whether you love Iowa history, family stories, genealogy, Dutch heritage, or a good fictional adventure, there’s something here for you!
You can also find some of her books on Amazon! Link for one will be in the comments!
