We feel that for our celiac friends, especially those who are newly diagnosed, it is imperative to know what it takes to make a restaurant gluten free and safe to consume GF products. It isn’t just about putting a gluten free bun on a burger. It’s about the gloves that touch the bun, the prep space, the spices and sauces included in the dish, and so much more. Education is key and asking the right questions are important. We know that restaurants want to be more inclusive and we are happy to hear that, however we want our friends and customers to stay informed. Don’t be afraid to ask hard questions and use discretion when trying something new, especially if certain certifications are not posted on walls. We hope that the health department in NC will begin enforcing rules around GF options so that consumers have confidence on where they eat out. We hear that it will happen but we don’t know when it will be implemented within their inspections and guidance.

🩷It’s important to stay educated on what is happening in the food industry these days. Did you know new legislation has been introduced into the US House of Representatives regarding gluten? Well it has and it needs bipartisan support and consumers like us to make this a big topic of conversation. After studying the legislation over the past few days I decided to call our NC representative and let him know I’d be honored to discuss this with him and see if he would back the bill for NC. I am hopeful the conversation will happen soon and that I can advocate for more awareness around gluten and food allergies that touch so many people around me and my store.
