Menu resets Friday, which means it's time to be honest: what's still sitting in your fridge from this week's box?

Three ways to use it up before the new lineup drops:

🥬Batch it into one sauce or base. Blitz whatever's soft, bruised, or "about to turn" — tomatoes, peppers, zucchini — into a simple sauce or soup base. Freeze it flat in a bag and it becomes dinner in three different meals later.

🥕Build one big "kitchen sink" dish. Stir-fry, frittata, or grain bowl — whatever's left in the drawer goes in. There's no wrong combination when everything's getting cooked down together anyway.

🥔Freeze it before it's a problem. Chop and freeze anything you know you won't get to — most produce holds up far better frozen raw than forgotten in the crisper. Future you already has dinner started.

Fresh food shouldn't come with guilt when it doesn't get used fast enough. A little planning goes a long way — and it means every bit of what your local farmers grew actually gets eaten.

Did you know FreshFix is the only local delivery accepting SNAP online in WNY? 🛒

We didn't just want to deliver local food — we wanted to make sure "local" wasn't a privilege reserved for whoever could already afford it.

That's why FreshFix is the only local delivery service in Western New York accepting SNAP benefits online, straight to your doorstep. No trip to the store required. No separate process to figure out. Just real, local food — accessible the way it should be.

Supporting local farmers and making sure our neighbors can actually get to their food isn't an either/or for us. It's the whole point.

This week, four WNY farms brought something different to the table. Swipe through to see what's coming out of the ground (and trees) right now:
This is what's actually in season across Western New York right now — grown by the people who planted it, not shipped in from somewhere else.

Don’t toss those scraps — turn them into stock.

Every time you trim a vegetable, you’re probably throwing away flavor. Pepper cores, onion skins, carrot ends, celery tops, the woody stems you cut off before cooking — all of it can go straight into a freezer bag instead of the trash.

Here’s how it works: keep a gallon freezer bag in your freezer and toss in vegetable scraps as you cook throughout the week. Ends, peels, stems, cores — all fair game. Once the bag is full, dump it into a pot, cover with water, add a bay leaf and some peppercorns if you’ve got them, and let it simmer for an hour or two. Strain it out and you’ve got a rich, homemade veggie stock ready for soups, rice, or braising.

Zero cost. Zero waste. And there’s something genuinely satisfying about turning what would’ve been garbage into something you’d normally pay $4 a carton for at the store.

This is the kind of small habit that adds up — less waste in your kitchen, more value out of every box from your local farms. Small business supporting small business starts with using every last bit of what you’ve got.

Try it this week and let us know what you simmered up.
