It is with deep gratitude and profound sadness that we share the news that Public Espresso will be ceasing operations. Our last day of business will be Saturday, April 4th.

The last 13 years have been some of the most rewarding and challenging.

But the landscape of operating a small business has changed dramatically in that time.

It has ebbed and flowed in many directions, and we have finally found the changing tides too difficult to navigate.

We thank you for your loyal support, business, and friendship over the years. It is difficult to end on a sour note, but it doesn’t diminish the many sweet ones along the way.

We hope you’ll stop in to one of the cafes in the coming days to have a coffee and say goodbye. For now all 3 cafes will remain open with normal hours and full menus. We’re turning off delivery services to focus on the in-cafe experience.

PLEASE NOTE: This does not affect the cafes operated by Dash’s Market. They will remain in operation.

When we founded Public, we chose our name based on the concept of a public house, spaces where community gathered. In moments like these, it’s important to recognize the power that gathering spaces have, and to reflect on what it would be like to not have these spaces.

In solidarity with the nationwide shutdown and general strike, and in standing with the people of Minnesota who are under attack by our federal government, all Public cafes will be closed on Friday, January 30th.

We made this decision with input from our teams. Our team members that were scheduled to work will be paid, despite the closure.

We make and pipe our choux pastry fresh every day for our cruller. They chill overnight before frying for the perfect crisp exterior and a soft, pillowy, custard-y center.

Then we dip them, glaze them,or toss them in cinnamon sugar before delivering them to all 3 cafes around the city.

It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it.
