Good morning
We have just received a batch of Indian Monsooned Malabar!! (Benbows is a Wicked Joe product roasted right in Topsham)
We will not be able to set aside any of this coffee, it will be only available on a “first come first served” basis.
We have it available in 2lb bags ($34) of whole bean, a few ground for drip and a few for cone. We will also have it by the pound, beans or custom ground. ($17.50/lb)
History of this coffee:
Years ago coffee would be loaded in the damp holds of wooden ships and sailed from India, around the south tip of Africa and north to Europe. During this trip the beans would be exposed to high humidity, if not just wet, for months. The coffee would ripen from a fresh green to a more aged pale yellow, transforming the character of this coffee.
With shorter routes, and tighter ships, this transformation was lost, now the beans are "monsooned" which means the cherries are picked, sorted and spread out in large areas where they are kept moist, turned and raked for 3-4 months.
This coffee, very low in acidity, is heavy bodied, pungent and is considered to be dry with a musty, chocolatey aroma and notes of spice and nuts.
