🏆🌶️ INTRODUCING THE RICK-O-SALSOFF CHAMPIONSHIP BELTS! 🌶️🏆

And before anyone asks: NO, THESE ARE NOT AI. 😂 These are the ACTUAL belts.

These beauties were designed and made especially for the Rick-O-SalsOff by one of the engineers from the company where this whole crazy salsa tradition began — formerly Ball Aerospace, now BAE Systems. They were made with a ridiculous amount of talent, time and love, and we could not be more obsessed with how they turned out. ❤️🌶️

And yes… there are TWO.

🏆 THE HOUSE BELT
One will live permanently at The Old Man. Each year, the champion’s name and year will be stamped in gold into the leather strap, creating a permanent history of Rick-O-SalsOff champions.

🌶️ THE CHAMPION’S BELT
The other one goes HOME WITH THE WINNER.

That belt will carry the champions’ names too, but there’s one very important rule:

If you win it, you have to bring it back next year and put your title on the line. 😏

You want to keep the belt? Come back. Enter again. Defend your title.

Otherwise, you may have to hand it over to the person who just dethroned you. 🔥

Yes, this is a salsa competition.

The Rick-O-SalsOff didn’t start at The Old Man.

More than 30 years ago, it started at Ball Aerospace (here in Broomfield) when a couple of friends began talking up their salsa-making skills. Naturally, there was only one way to settle it: find out who actually made the best salsa.

One thing led to another, more people wanted in, and a friendly competition between coworkers grew into a tradition that continued for more than three decades.

When Ball Aerospace was sold, there was a real possibility that the Rick-O-SalsOff tradition would come to an end.

We couldn’t let that happen.

So The Old Man gave the Salsoff a new home. ❤️🌶️

This year marks the 34th Annual Rick-O-SalsOff and our 3rd year carrying on a tradition that started between a couple of friends and grew into something pretty special.

And now we need our 2026 competitors!

☂️☠️ The Old Man Umbrella Graveyard ☠️☂️

Unfortunately… it’s a real place.

This summer alone, we’ve spent hundreds of dollars replacing umbrellas that have been pulled from their bases, dragged around the beer garden, opened and closed incorrectly, left open in the wind… or broken because tables were moved with the umbrella still inside.

We know it’s hot. Trust us—we’re out here too. ☀️

We want everyone to enjoy the shade, but we have one small favor to ask…

🚫 Please leave the umbrellas and the picnic tables where they are.

Here’s why:

☂️ Umbrellas break when they’re moved. Especially when the entire picnic table gets dragged with the umbrella still installed.

📍 Our tables are mapped. Every QR code on our brand-new ordering plaques is assigned to that table’s exact location. When a table gets moved across the beer garden, our food runners suddenly have to play “Find the Customer” instead of delivering your food. (if you’ve ever scanned a QR code and moved tables, that’s why your food is taking so long we can’t find you.)

☂️ Everyone deserves some shade. When one table gathers several umbrellas to create their own private cabana, it leaves other guests baking in the sun. (Yes, this actually happens)

The truth is, it’s easy to be a little rough with something that doesn’t belong to you. But when these umbrellas break, or tables get moved, it doesn’t just affect us—it affects every guest who visits after you.

We’re constantly investing in the beer garden to make it a better place to spend your summer.

✨ And we’re actively working on a more permanent shade solution.

All we ask is that you help us take care of

We wanted to make everyone aware of a City of Broomfield ordinance regarding smoking and va**ng in public outdoor spaces.

Per city regulations, smoking and va**ng are not permitted:
• In the beer garden/patio areas
• Within 25 feet of entrances to the building or beer garden
• In outdoor dining/bar areas open to the public

Per City of Broomfield Ordinance 8-02-030(F)

We know this may be frustrating for some guests, but this is not a house rule created by us — it is a city ordinance that we are required to follow.

Our staff is simply doing their job by enforcing the rules put in place by the City of Broomfield, and we appreciate your patience and understanding while we do our best to stay compliant.
