A fantastic first visit to the 110 Grill in Henrietta, NY, which was previously home to Buffalo Wild Wings at the corner of Jefferson and Clay Roads.

As the 100 Grill is a National Chain I was not expecting too much from the experience, as I’m usually reluctant to visit, and much more interested in food from local and regional restaurants. I am pleased to report this pre-conceived notion of mine was, in this case, wrong.

The exterior of the restaurant is beautifully branded and enticing, with a modern appeal, yet featured classic elements like hardwoods, copper
and iron.

We had made reservations so we were seated immediately, even though the place was near full capacity. They seated us near the open kitchen which at first seemed like it might be too loud or distracting. This also turned out to be wrong, for me anyway, as I got to see not only how amazing the staff worked together, but more importantly, a huge variety of their dishes being prepared and placed on the serving counter for the wait staff.

Every single dish they served looked like it would be something I would enjoy. The staff was meticulous on the organization of ordering, and the presentation of every plate; even going so far as to wipe drips from the edges of outgoing plates/bowls.

I started with a bowl of lobster bisque. It was served to the table within ten minutes of ordering and was presented simply, yet beautifully. The soup was velvety, and full of flavor, as well as moderately but adequately loaded with pieces of lobster. At first, it tasted a little on the “buttery” side but that opinion vanished as I ate more of the soup. The only other lobster bisque I’ve had in Rochester was at Jeremiah's Tavern on Monroe Avenue and was much better.

For my entree, I ordered the 110 Beef Stroganoff. The dish was comprised of pan-seared beef tenderloin with a blend of wild mushrooms, caramelized onions and a very tasty salted demi-glace, and an amazing Herb Spatzle, instead of egg noodles, which is typical for a dish like this. I was going to order a fish fry but I am glad I opted for the Stroganoff, as it’s not too often I see this offered and I can get a fish fry just about anywhere/anytime.

The rest of the family ordered a Turkey Burger with sweet potato fries, a Beyond Burger with roasted brussels sprouts, Pasta Primavera, and a Vegetable Stir Fry.

The turkey burger was served with goat cheese, caramelized onions and apples, a cranberry aioli, and came on a lightly toasted Focaccia bun. This was easily the best, most flavorful turkey burger I have ever tried. If I go back anytime soon I will be ordering it so I can enjoy the full burger and not just a bite. The brussels sprouts served with the Beyond burger were also fantastic. The Pasta Primavera was delicious, and if I had to explain it in just one word, it would be “fresh.” I did not try the Vegetable Stir Fry but it looked outstanding.

The girls split a Deconstructed Key Lime Pie for dessert that they thoroughly enjoyed.

Lastly, the prices are fair for the most part but some of their menu offerings did seem a bit on the high end.

Another amazing pie from Columbini's on Chili Ave in Rochester. A lesser-known gem in the region and another reason Western NY has the best pizza in the country.

I have been getting pizza and wings from here for at least 8 years but it's always been large sheet/wings orders for parties or soccer banquets, or 1/2 sheets for a family dinner. This was the first time I've ordered a medium pizza and have to say it was outstanding. You have to try both! You can't judge a pizza place until you've had a sheet and a normal pie. There are huge differences in how they are prepared, therefore yield very different results. I've had great pizza from many places that serve awful sheets, and the opposite. I am happy to report Columbini's delivers the same quality no matter what size you order.

This pizza dough/crust also has the best salt content I've ever had, and the sauce is how I feel real-deal Italian sauce should taste. The sauce is sweet, tangy and simple, which is why it works so well with the salt in the dough. Giuseppe's on Lyell Ave is a close comparison.

The pizza reheats very well. If you reheat a pizza in the oven the day after you ordered it and it's still soft, crunchy on the bottom and edges, you know it was made right and made fresh. If you reheat pizza in the oven and it's hard and chewy, and sauceless, you know it was more than likely made from at least two-day-old dough and was not fresh. If you reheat pizza in the microwave we can't be friends. ;)

The chicken wings are very good. Average in size but usually cooked perfectly and sauced generously. Their 'hot' is unique and tasty. Almost with an Asian twang to them, but a lip-licking spice that doesn't last too long and is very flavorful.

Lastly, the prices are outstanding.

Colombini's also offers subs, deli meats, and cheeses, paninis, calzones, stuffed bread(s), dinner entrees, desserts and more.

Although I have been to the Monroe Avenue location several times, this is only my second experience with the new Brockport location. What can I say... this is the best Vietnamese Pho in Rochester, without a doubt. The only other that comes close is Thai, at The King and I, and is called Spicy Noodle Soup.

I ordered the brisket pho (Pho Tai Gau) to-go with a side of chili oil and an order of the fried egg rolls (Cha Gio). The egg rolls are made with ground pork, mushroom, carrot, cabbage, and noodles, and are served with fish sauce. The only better fried egg rolls in the ROC were at Saigon Cafe on Lyell Ave, but they closed down a few months ago, I believe. They also had what I thought to be the second-best Pho in the ROC.

The Pho is outstanding. Perfect broth, thinly sliced brisket and eye of the round steak, scallions, onions, basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, and a slice of lime. The Pho is typically made with rice noodles but I opted for the yellow "vermicelli" noodles, as I like the taste better.

The serving size is above average and left me more than full and the Pho is only $7.25. The fried egg rolls come with 4 rolls and are only $3.50.
