He has been working in the restaurant biz here in Faribault for nearly 20 years, starting as a busser and working his way up through pretty much every position/role there is. Most of you are used to seeing him behind the bar slinging beers and mixing some of the best cocktails ar

ound. He has developed cocktail programs, managed, and met some amazing people along the way. It's time for him to switch things up a bit and dive into his real obsession, FOOD. This guy eats, sleeps, and breathes food. He has an extensive collection of cookbooks, has maxed out our DVR with Food Network shows and our utensil drawers (yes- plural) are bursting at the seams with every gadget imaginable. Cooking is truly his passion and it is time someone else benefits from his amazing talents besides me!

This post is overdue. Our Island community lost a great one last week. Big Rich. He was an icon around here! Our family in particular lost one of our own. Andy and I worked with Rich back in 2008 at the Beach Bistro when we first moved here! Our kids were little and he would make them snacks and hang out with them! Fast forward to 2017 when we opened SMOQEHOUSE AMI, he was the guy we knew we needed to help us! He dropped everything to come and work with us. He spent the better part of the last 9 years in our kitchen, with us, our kids and our crew. We don’t know what we would have done without him, his love and his support. He has struggled with his health the last few years and was no longer in our kitchen BUT he was still around. Visiting. Eating. Sharing our posts. He was just the best guy! I didn’t make it to the hospital to see him this time. And I regret that. I thought I had more time. Yesterday there was a bright red cardinal in our yard on a tree staring at us and chirping really loud. I told Andy right away- that’s Rich. Probably letting us know that he KNOWS we love him and there will forever be a Big Rich size hole in the island community and in ours. Richard…… as we like to call him, we love you and will miss you forever! We will continue to build SMOQEHOUSE and will never forget the integral role you had in helping us open our lil island shop! RIP buddy. 😭❤️
