The Bay is a shining example of how Bozeman celebrates and returns to an authentic restaurant filled with happy people and great food. The restaurant recently celebrated its 34th anniversary, all under owner Kurt Shull who opened the restaurant in 1987. Famous for signature dishes like french onion soup and shrimp wontons, every single dish is house-made and all ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible. Travelers and Bozeman devotees alike come for dishes unique to The Bay and for the cozy and personal atmosphere, whether they sit in the dining room or the more casual bar room.

Help us welcome our new chef to The Bay ✨

With Chef Peter, nothing makes it to the table without a reason. He describes his style in 3 words — unique, refined, honest — and honestly, that’s exactly what’s landing on your plate. We’re keeping the classics you love, and elevating around that.

He specializes in classic French, Spanish, and Mediterranean cuisine, and believes in using classic and trusted techniques. Butter & oil are his most important ingredients, but as he says, “sauces are essential” ✨

Our kitchen is a team, and we are so excited for Chef Peter to conduct the kitchen like a synchronized orchestra. That same precision shows up in his food — sometimes a dish built from a few ingredients in minutes, other days it’s a plate layered with technique and a full spectrum of flavor.

Expect a rotating seasonal menu, sharp technique, and beautiful new takes on Montana classics with a European soul. Same Bay Bar & Grill you love — just leveled all the way up!
