September 4th, 2010...these photos are from that amazing start to an incredible 16 year run. The top photo is Albert Wolfgram who was instrumental in helping at the Hideaway and Marshalltown Speedway before he started his own successful business. Adam Westrum helped with our repairs, remodel, and everything in between. The bottom photo "The Neighbor" is Loren Myers. Loren and Rick Jackson, whose family I purchased it from, stocked coolers on Friday night as Albert and I were in Marshalltown so we could open Saturday morning. Along the way we have toppled many hurdles from fires to COVID and still remain strong because of a team second to none and our amazing patrons! Without each of our team members we would not be where we are at today and have a bright future ahead of us. A little quick history about 1723 Mamie Eisenhower. It was built as George's in 1952 with George Douroumis at the helm. George then passed the torch to Leonard's Lounge after a good run. From there, the Waterbury family purchased it and it became the Anchor. In 1984, basically on a dare, Merv Jackson purchased it and moved back from California and it became Murv and Wanda's Hideaway. I always loved the Hideaway name and a close friend called me Toby K, so Toby K's Hideaway it was. I have vivid memories of our family eating broasted chicken, Grandma and Grandpa Kruse enjoying a beer in "the boot", and the amazing atmosphere and Magic on Mamie. I hope you've enjoyed a little trip down memory lane as we look forward to celebrating our Anniversary this weekend. A sincere Thank You once again to our second to none team and valued customers.
