Hi all-
I’m reaching out because, like many businesses on Block Island, we are facing an ongoing challenge with employee housing. We own and operate two restaurants on the island—The Cracked Mug at Payne’s Dock, which operates seasonally, and Ellen’s, which serves our community year-round.
Our ability to continue providing reliable service, maintaining jobs, and remaining open depends on having dedicated employees. Unfortunately, finding housing for both seasonal and year-round staff has become one of the biggest obstacles to operating our businesses.
We are actively looking for any housing opportunities that could accommodate employees, whether it’s for the summer season or on a year-round basis. Even a small apartment, cottage, or shared housing arrangement could make an enormous difference in our ability to retain staff and continue serving both island residents and visitors alike.
Our employees are hardworking, respectful, and dependable. They come here to work, contribute to the community, and help keep local businesses operating. Providing them with stable housing is essential not only for our restaurants, but for the continued vitality of the island’s workforce.
