What started as a Saturday afternoon “what can we do to help more” has quickly turned into something I never expected.

Over $30,000 raised for our Block Island Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. These brave souls worked tirelessly to knock the fire down and stop it from spreading to other buildings - while waiting for mutual aide to come assist.

While this is just one of their true acts of heroism - they continue day in and day out to keep our community safe. Crawling out of bed at odd hours of the night to assist with rescue calls, fire calls and alarm calls. Often times leaving their jobs - or their families.

I’m truly humbled by the outpouring of support for these brave volunteers and am damn proud to call this community my home.

We truly have the best of the best. Thankful to our volunteer Block Island Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and all surrounding towns that sent mutual aide to keep our town safe. Thankfully no one was hurt but the devastation is real.

A big thank you to the Block Island Ferry for helping send over mutual aid as well as New England Airlines . We truly are a town that comes together in a time of need.

In February I sent in my proposal for the space at the airport - at the end of April I was told I was awarded the lease after months of negotiations. In May I finally signed on the dotted line after more negotiations - and in mid June I was handed a fully executed lease and a set of keys. Our building permit was finally obtained, after jumping through many hoops -in which I am thankful for my friends assisting in their professional capacities along the way.

Demolition has begun and I’m truly seeing this space for the first time.

Excited to honor my late grandmother, Ellen, and provide a gathering space for our year round community.

Excited for Ellen’s and all that it brings coming in November!
