I opened Urban Standard 14 years ago as an extension of my home and a place where people could gather and exchange ideas and inspiration. As you know, I made the difficult decision to close the cafe in 2020 for a number of reasons. I’ve loved all of you like family and I want you to know that I really miss seeing you everyday.

Many of you have asked what will happen to Urban Standard and I finally have an answer for you. If you know ＦＲＯＴＨＹ ＭＯＮＫＥＹout of Nashville you know that they are amazing and I’m happy to let you know that they will be taking over the Urban Standard space. I was introduced to Ryan Pruitt, the Managing Partner of Frothy Monkey by a mutual friend back in 2019, and after spending time getting to know him and Frothy Monkey, I knew that they would be a wonderful fit here to carry on our mission to serve our friends in this neighborhood and community. Frothy Monkey is not Urban Standard, but there are many similarities and I know you will love them and what they have to offer. They will be as awesome or better than we were!

So, please give a warm welcome to my new friends at Frothy! Over the next few months they will be doing some renovations and getting the shop ready to reopen. Please follow ＦＲＯＴＨＹ ＭＯＮＫＥＹ] for updates on their opening.

Urban Standard loves our community deeply and are so grateful for your support. Unfortunately, due to this pandemic we have to close our doors for good this Wednesday the 17th.
We’ve been serving our community since 2007 and so many life long relationships have been formed here. We really love Birmingham and all of our loyal customers that have been coming here for years. All the over the counter talks we’ve had over the years will be so greatly missed. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us and we’re so sad to see Urban Standard close. Come by and say goodbye and grab your last latte, we want to see you before we close.

For those of you who have missed our cupcakes, we have chocolate on chocolate today 🖤 Other baked goods in the case right now are: mixed berry scones, blueberry scones, raspberry lemon muffins, banana nutella bread, and chocolate chip cookies. Come get a safely prepared treat 🙂

We’re opening for curbside service on Friday 5/15! We’re going to have a limited menu for a little while, but all your favorite staples will be here. We’re excited to safely serve our community again. See you all soon 🖤

Hi everyone 👋 Urban has missed our customers dearly and we hope to see you soon. We are taking this next week to prepare and make sure that we’re serving our community as safe as we possibly can. Starting tomorrow we’re going to close up shop until further notice. With the way Covid-19 is spreading we feel as though it’s our responsibility to close to keep our employees and guests safe. Thank you all for all of your support over the years. We hope to open back up in two weeks depending on how things are going. Our general manager started a to help our urban family during this difficult time! Our staff is making a significant sacrifice in order to do what we collectively feel is the right thing.
