I want to readdress the concerns that have continued to be raised regarding a customer photographed in our establishment.
First , we want to be clear : Cocoanut Grove does not support or condone Na**sm, white supremacy, antisemitism, or racism, or any form of hate or extremist ideology. Those beliefs have no place in our business or our community.
My original statement focused on explaining that the customer was not affiliated with our business. Looking back , I recognize that I failed to clearly acknowledge why so many people were hurt and concerned by the image. For that I sincerely apologize.
At the time the customer was in our establishment, our staff did not recognize the symbol on the hat or understand its significance. Had we known we would have addresssed the situation directly.
We appreciate some of you that brought this to our attention. We never want anyone to question whether they are welcome or safe here. Our commitment has always been to provide a place where everyone in our community can gather with the respect for one another.
