Mike here… Welcome to another edition of “Arcade Games Based on Movies We Were Definitely Too Young to Watch.”

The Terminator franchise began in 1984 with a dark, violent, R-rated science-fiction horror movie about an unstoppable killing machine from the future. Naturally, kids thought it was awesome.

The game behind me is Terminator Salvation, released by Raw Thrills and Play Mechanix in 2010. This two-player shooter arms you with heavy recoiling rifles and a unique clip-action reload system as you battle T-600s, flying drones, and seemingly every other machine Skynet can send your way.

As you can see from the picture, it’s a quiet, restrained gaming experience.

Grab both guns, join the Resistance, and come play Terminator Salvation at Time Rift.

Come with me if you want to play..... at the Time Rift!

👻 Halloween is BACK at Time Rift Arcade! 🎃

We've transformed the building for the season. We've added some cool new animatronics, and a few of your old favorites have crawled back out of storage to haunt the place.

Hot take: Aliens (1990) is the most underrated cabinet in our building and most of you walk right past it.

I put it at #3 on my current top 5. The whole list is on the blog now, including the machine that knocked everything else out of the #1 spot.

Come tell me I'm wrong in the comments. :-)

Next up is Aliens. The 1986 movie gave an entire generation nightmares involving facehuggers and chestbursters. Naturally, Konami decided this would make a perfect arcade game.

Released in 1990, Aliens is a two-player run-and-gun shooter that combines side-scrolling action with third-person shooting stages. You’ll fight your way through swarms of Xenomorphs using smart guns, flamethrowers, and gr***de launchers before facing the Alien Queen herself. The game also introduced several strange new Alien creatures that never appeared in the movie.

Grab a friend and come play Aliens at the Time Rift.

Game over, man? Not at Time Rift Arcade.

OMG! Yesterday I claimed Mr. Do! was "way better" than Dig Dug. The comments came in about 85% Mr. Do!, so I figured the case was closed.

Then someone dropped this in the thread. It's a Dig Dug commercial from the 80s and it is ridiculously awesome. Not saying it changes my vote. I'm just saying you gotta watch it. 🙃

Round two in the comments. Does this move the needle for Dig Dug? 👇

Mr. Do! > Dig Dug. Yeah, I said it. Change my mind!

Both came out in 1982. Both have you digging tunnels while monsters chase you. Dig Dug got the fame and the spot on every "greatest arcade games" list. Mr. Do! got a cult following and a lot of "wait, which one is that?"

But Mr. Do! is the better game.

Dig Dug gives you a bicycle pump. Mr. Do! gives you a power ball you can bounce off walls and actually aim. That's a real weapon.

Dig Dug has one way to beat a level. Mr. Do! gives you four: kill the monsters, collect the cherries, spell EXTRA, or grab the diamond. Every level is a choice, not a chore.

Dig Dug is a great game. But if I've got one quarter, it's going in Mr. Do! every time.

So which one is it for you? Defend your pick in the comments. I'll be here arguing with every one of you.

Both machines are on the floor at Time Rift Arcade in Bedford, TX. Come settle it in person.

Mike here… Welcome to another edition of “Arcade Games Based on Movies We Were Definitely Too Young to Watch.”

First up is RoboCop. The 1987 movie was packed with brutal violence, dark satire, and enough nightmare fuel to earn an R rating. Naturally, just one year later, Data East turned it into an arcade game that kids could play right next to Pac-Man.

The 1988 game follows several scenes from the movie, mixing side-scrolling shooting and hand-to-hand combat with first-person target-practice stages. It even features digitized voices from the film and a showdown with ED-209.

Come play RoboCop at Time Rift, where upholding the law won’t cost you a pocketful of quarters.

Dead or alive, you’re coming with me..... to the Time Rift!
