When people think landmarks in Bayonne, one place comes up again and again - Naples Restaurant and Pizzeria. This year Naples is celebrating it's 63rd anniversary - during all that time, people have found it to be a place they remember and come back to - again and again. It was all started on 30th Street and the Boulevard by Marge and Johnny Shynne and their pal Lou Mongelli. Years later they move
d their restaurant/pizzeria to 43rd St and Broadway and it stayed put for twenty-one years. Sixty-three years of continuity and during that time Naples Restaurant has always been acknowledged as one of the finest pizzerias in town. Just a couple of weeks ago, Naples took 1st place in the Bayonne Pizza Challenge for best thin crust pizza. Naples has survived in a city known for short-lived restaurants because they offer fresh food and real home cooking at affordable prices. Marge Howlett, the daughter of the Shynne's has been running the place for nearly thirty-eight years and still remains the owner. She hopes to spend many more years to come enjoying the same great food, good friends, and giving the same friendly service. Each day, she kneads the pizza dough by hand. That's how real owners do it. Naples Restaurant has always been a place you can relax in comfortable booths and enjoy the companionship of family or friends while dining on your favorite Italian foods. It's not just pizza - there are plenty of special dishes in Naples. The fresh mussels hand cleaned and prepared then cooked to perfection; tasty mozzarella sandwiches, great salads, delicious buffalo wings and a large menu of pastas, chicken, shrimp and eggplant, all created for you. Naturally, you can't forget the overall favorite at any Italian restaurant - pizza. The choices are varied and you can choose whatever ingredients you want or take some of the tried and true toppings on the menu. Thin crust, or thick at your request, every bit turns out to be a wonderful experience. They cater to you and they do it well. That's Italian. Naples is more than a restaurant - it is a testament to the warmth and friendship that has been generated by all through the years. It is a landmark and a part of Bayonne that if you go to once, you will go to - again and again.
