……What did I learn from this experience? First, I learned the importance of adaptability. In the restaurant business, you can plan and prepare as much as you want, but things will go wrong sometimes.
Being able to think on your feet and come up with a solution, even in the face of unexpected challenges, is crucial in ANY business .
Second, I learned about the power of honesty and transparency. We didn't try to hide what happened—we simply apologized and explained the situation to the guests.
People appreciate honesty, and more often than not, they'll be forgiving when they know you are doing your best.
That's something I took to heart and have carried with me since that event.
Lastly, I learned to trust the power of the unexpected. Sometimes, when things don't go as planned, you end up discovering new ways to solve problems or even new techniques that can help you moving forward.
While we didn't intend for essential oils to be part of the solution, they turned out to be a creative (if unconventional) way to salvage a dish in a pinch.
