🩸🎲 Nerdy Thursday: Astarion by T. Kingfisher

Okay, this one is for us.

We love Baldur’s Gate 3 in this household, we love T. Kingfisher, and now she’s written an entire novel about our favorite pale elf? We have been WAITING.

Set before the events of BG3, Astarion takes us back to Baldur’s Gate while Astarion is still bound to Cazador. There’s a twisted competition, the blood of a dead god, an extremely suspicious amount of danger, and—because apparently our boy has a type—a handsome Aasimar paladin.

Pick this one up if you enjoy:
🧛 Pale elves with emotional baggage
🎲 Baldur’s Gate 3
🩸 Vampires, dark fantasy & questionable decisions
⚔️ T. Kingfisher’s particular brand of weird
🔥 Handsome paladins complicating things

And remember: Nerdy Thursday means you get to roll our giant plushie D20 for your discount! Because if BG3 taught us anything, it’s that every important decision should apparently be entrusted to a die.

Knowledge is power, and we are passionate about making sure everyone has the same access to knowledge via the world of books. In the same light, we feel that everyone should be able to see reflections of themselves in the literature that is represented in society.

Friends, family, and fans, please feel free to nominate us for James Patterson's Bookstore Bonus (at the link below)!

With this bonus, we will continue to fight against censorship by filling our Shop with Banned Books. We will also continue to support our charity of choice, Kisa Marx , whose goal is also to provide equitable access to quality childcare and education to underserved communities.

🐾 WEIRD WEDNESDAY 🐾

Today’s recommendation asks one of literature’s most important questions:

BUTT… OR FACE?

Yes. That’s the book. 😂

Butt or Face? by Kari Lavelle turns animal identification into a delightfully weird guessing game: you get a close-up photo and have to decide whether you’re looking at an animal’s face… or its backside.

And listen. I looked through this book.

I got an embarrassing number of them wrong.

So please come test your butt-identification skills and tell me you did better than I did. 😂

Educational? Yep.
Hilarious? Absolutely.
Humbling for the adult bookseller who thought this would be easy? Extremely.

Perfect for curious kids, reluctant readers, animal lovers, and grown-ups who are about to discover they are perhaps a little too confident in their ability to recognize animal butts.

You’ve met Goosebumps.

Now meet his tiny army.

For this week’s Trinket Tuesday, we’re featuring our mini porch geese — pocket-sized versions of everyone’s favorite bookstore guardian.

Are they useful? Debatable.
Are they tiny geese? Yes.
Do you need one watching over your bookshelf, desk, houseplants, or increasingly questionable TBR pile?

Also yes.

Come adopt your very own tiny Goosebumps at Archives. 🪿📚

And yes, the full-sized Goosebumps will be supervising the adoption process.

📚✍️ MAKE IT HAPPEN MONDAY ✍️📚

Got a book in your head? A zine half-finished on your laptop? A tiny press you keep saying you’re totally going to start someday?

Someday can be Monday.

This week’s Make It Happen Monday pick is A People’s Guide to Publishing by Joe Biel — a practical guide to taking your words from I made a thing to other people can actually read the thing.

From publishing and distribution to promotion and the realities of getting your work into readers’ hands, it’s a solid resource for writers, zinesters, indie publishers, and anyone curious about what happens after you type THE END.

Because publishing doesn’t have to belong exclusively to giant corporations.

Make weird things. Make important things. Then get them out into the world.

🦶📚 SASQUATCH SUNDAY 📚🦶

Is Sasquatch Sunday a thing?

It is now.

Today’s extremely specific recommendation is Get Dressed, Sasquatch! — a board book tackling one of childhood’s most pressing questions:

How exactly does a Sasquatch put on pants?

Perfect for little cryptid enthusiasts, future Bigfoot researchers, or anyone who believes getting dressed in the morning is itself a legendary feat.

🧟‍♀️💕 SAPPHIC SATURDAY 💕🧟‍♀️

This week’s pick: The Z Word by Lindsay King-Miller

Pride is coming. Your ex is sleeping with your friends. Everyone’s relationship situation is a disaster.

Oh, and people are turning into zombies.

The Z Word throws a gloriously messy q***r cast into a zombie outbreak and gives us everything we could reasonably ask for: chaotic bisexuals, sword le****ns, ex-girlfriend drama, found family, corporate villains, gore, and big gay feelings.

Basically, it’s October-adjacent, it’s sapphic, and it understood the assignment.
