My Mimi was so talented in many areas, but she was self-taught and was never confident about her skills. Relatable.

Anyway, when Justin and I were setting up our first home Mimi let us pillage her closets and furniture and I came away with the only surviving paintings she had done. I’ve hung them proudly for over twenty years, but this week I pulled her painting from my office wall and asked Whitney Virden if we could hang it at Bloom-By Bakery & Cafe during our re-decoration and re-launch. Whitney knows how important Mimi is to me, and immediately said yes.

So say hi to Mimi’s rose painting on your way in or out! It gives me great joy to peek out of the kitchen and have Mimi’s art within eyeshot. ♥️♥️♥️

Early Bird Market gifted me a beautiful CSA share this week, and I absolutely couldn’t wait to get in the kitchen to share it with you!

The humble okra has an…unglamorous…reputation, but this buttery soft, farm fresh version is delightful.

I’ve made a Gumbo Base that’s ready to be poured over the browned protein of your choice…chicken, sausage, or shrimp. Serve over rice. This gumbo is my grandmama’s recipe, and there’s only a limited amount available. It’s gonna be perfect for the cooler nights ahead ♥️

Welcome bite: figs, Texas olive oil, Celtic sea salt

First Course: arugula, pear, pecan, smoke blue cheese, spiced pear balsamic

Second Course: savory apple tarte tatin, miso, maple, cheddar, chimayo red chili, thyme

Third Course: corn chowder, local corn, local chilies, local smoked Serrano, potatoes from my garden

Fourth Course: stuffed local honey nut squash, Ralston Family Rice, kale, caramelized onion veloute, sage brown butter
