Meet Somer!

What year did you start working at Murphy’s?

It was my spring break of my sophomore year in high school. March of 2012.

What do you actually do day-to-day at the restaurant?

I’m a weekend waitress!

What is your favorite menu item?

Chicken fried chicken sandwich with pepper jack cheese and bacon!

What are three things on your bucket list?

Take my 3 girls and hubby on vacation, become a permanent make up artist in the next few years, & to create a name for myself and possibly expand & hire other creative artists in the future at my Esthetician spa Rare Culture Esthetics.

What are three words that your close friends would use to describe you?

Driven. Nurturing. Resilient.

Can you tell us about one of your favorite work memories?

Murphy’s is a big part of who I am today! My favorite memories would have to be.. the pancake benefit they had for my dad when he passed away from cancer in 2015, & also supporting me through the passing of my mama of Covid in 2021, & hosting baby showers for my girls!

I started working at Murphys in 2017.

What do you actually do day-to-day?

Take care of my two babies and waitress!

What is your favorite menu item?

The chicken fried steak or BLT!

What is your favorite hobby to unwind with on the weekends?

I like to paint or go fishing with my family!

What’s a fun fact about you that your colleagues might not know?

I love riding horses and fishing.

What’s your favorite memory of working at the restaurant?

There’s too many to pick from! It’s always a fun time working with everyone.

Introducing Lindsey!

What year did you start working at Murphy’s?

In 2005 the first time. Late December 2021 this time.

What do you actually do day-to-day?

I waitress, work the register and answer the phones. Wherever they need some help out front!

What is your favorite menu item?

Chicken Fried Chicken!

If you could instantly learn any new skill, what would it be?

I’d be more artistic and creative. I’d also learn to fly because, why not!

What is a small thing that brings you joy during the week?

Getting to spend time with my daughter and watching her grow and learn.

What’s your favorite memory of the restaurant or your favorite thing about working here?

There are so many it’s hard to pick just one. I started working here when I was 15 so a lot of the people really are like family to me.

What year did you start working at Murphy’s?

I have been here for about 14 years.

What do you actually do day-to-day?

I’m the kitchen manager. Cook, clean and take care of personnel.

What is your favorite menu item?

The Hot Hamburger. Gravy over all!

Where would you most like to travel to and why?

Mardi Gras. For the party on Bourbon Street!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Work hard and stay healthy.

A lot of his other answers were hilarious but might get Murphy’s banned from Facebook. 🤐

The nice people I get to work with.

Let us introduce you to Skylor!

What year did you start working at Murphy’s?

I've been working up here for about 6 or so years.

What do you actually do day-to-day?

I'm a cook but I just do whatever they need help with that day.

What is your favorite menu item?

I just like a plain ol’ cheeseburger.

What is a fun fact about you?

I used to play the trumpet in school. I even got an award at a concert we did once.

If you had a free Saturday with no obligations, how would you spend it?

I'd probably relax at home and play some video games. I'm ready for the new GTA6 to come out. I even pre-ordered it.

What’s your favorite thing about working at the restaurant?

Probably the fact that everyone's cool up here, we are all like family. I love everyone up there and Miss Lorie is the best boss I’ve ever had.

What employee should we spotlight next?

Definitely Tim. He does a lot, works a bunch and he is genuinely a good guy. He taught me everything I've learned about the cook line.

Say Hello to Sierra!

What year did you start working at Murphy’s?

I've been working here for about 5½ years now!

What do you actually do day-to-day?

I work in the back on dishes but I also try to help out wherever they need me, I'm always down to help others.

What is your favorite menu item?

I'd definitely have to say the grilled chicken spud but I do eat the apple cobbler more than anything!

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

I'd have to pick time travel so I could go into the past and sit down with my younger self just to talk for a little while. If I'd have time maybe stop by to see my great grandma one more time, tell her I love and miss her dearly.

What is your favorite hobby, activity, or creative outlet?

I enjoy reading a good book and watching a movie or tv show. Right now I'm reading the Hunger Games books. I'm super excited for the new movie to come out in November!

What’s your favorite memory of the restaurant?

Well honestly it is so hard to choose because there's so many to pick from! I love everyone and enjoy the time I spend with them. We are all like one big family up here.

Well, look at that! Our Hot Hamburger is now a museum exhibit!

Here's a hot hamburger from Murphy's Steak House -- immortalized in plastic and on display at the Bartlesville Area History Museum.

Murphy's was opened in 1946 by Melvel and Lorene Murphy. The Murphy's signature hot hamburger is a slab of toast with a 1/2 pound premium beef patty, topped with fries and brown gravy. Cheese is extra.

Find the hot hamburger and many items of local cultural and historical significance at the museum. It is located on 5th floor of City Hall at 4th & Johnstone. Open Mon-Fri 8 am - 4pm. Admission is free and donations are welcome.

Meet Brit!

I am the mean sister! (Darcy’s sister!)

What year did you start working at Murphy’s?

Which time? But really; around 13/14 years ago. Too long to recall!

What do you actually do day-to-day?

I wait on the public as I practice my stand up comedy.

What is your favorite menu item?

It changes but as of now it is the chicken fried sandwich.

What is a hobby or passion you could talk about for an hour?

Antiques or cars.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or passed, who would it be and why?

People expect you to name a brilliant philosopher, a legendary musician, an iconic actor, or a world leader who changed the course of history. They think about grand conversations, historic secrets, or a chance to brush shoulders with fame. But when you have experienced the deepest heartbreak a person can endure, that question isn't a game at all. It has only one, instant answer. I wouldn't choose a celebrity, a president, or a genius. I would choose my son, Gavin.

(Rest in Peace, Gavin. Gavin Kane Pierce passed away on November 5, 2023, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, at the age of 18. He was born on June 17, 2005.)

What’s your favorite memory of the restaurant?

I couldn't tell you because being here this long and the crazy stuff that happens on the daily, some people wouldn't believe. This is like home and my co-workers and my customers are my family. So lots of memories.

I am a waitress!

What is a fun fact or hidden talent about you that people might not know?

I love to sing! As loud as possible! Not that I’m good at it. “You can sit wherever you like!”

What are you reading, watching, or listening to right now?

I have been watching Landman! I’m reading the Bible. My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

What’s your favorite memory of the restaurant?

Watching Paul sit at the end of the counter talking to every customer as they walk by.

Murphy’s is celebrating 80 years of serving the Bartlesville community this year! It’s hard to believe a tiny little diner has survived tornadoes, floods and a pandemic on top of the hardships of just running a restaurant in general. We were established in 1946. I’m fairly confident that makes us Bartlesville’s oldest restaurant and one of the oldest businesses. We wouldn’t be here without our loyal customers that kept passing the tradition down. We also wouldn’t be here without our staff. We are going to start a special feature where we highlight an employee with a spotlight post! We hope that you will enjoy those posts! First one up on Sunday!
