The neoliberal economics of the past decades has failed to protect democracy.
The exclusive reign of markets when essentials are under threat means treating as collateral damage the lives of those who lack the purchasing power to outbid others.
Since the biggest beneficiaries of corporate profits are a tiny number of ultra-rich individuals, this system creates an oligarchy incompatible with any serious notion of democracy.
Those whose living standard has stagnated, whose future carries little hope, whose anxieties peak, are told by the fascist prophets that the problem is the intruders, those who spoil the nation.
The task at hand is to remove the essentials of life and production from the reign of profit fundamentalism.
An anti-fascist economics has to choose an economy that serves life.
