The Harvey Project I have a bad habit of turning “I wonder if I could..." into a personal challenge. Testing ideas, building things, fixing machines, and learning along the way.

Some work. Some fail. All are worth trying. We have moved to Ballard, WV! Finleys Dairy Bar is open 7 days a week through the summer serving 16 flavors or hand scooped ice cream and shakes, juicy burgers, hotdogs, and more!

Episode 1 of **Will It Print?**

For this one, I wanted to see how well direct UV printing holds up on aluminum sublimation license plate blanks using the xTool Omni O1.

I put them through some scrubbing, standing water, and scratch tests to see what would happen.

Overall, I was pretty impressed! The main design held up well, but I did manage to lift one small detail with my fingernail.

Still don't know how they'll hold up to long-term outdoor exposure, but that's something I'll be testing.

What should I try printing on next?

Todays project is decorative license plates. Direct UV printed on aluminum.

Made up a couple of designs for James Monroe and Peterstown to see how they'd turn out. Pretty happy with the results so far! I've been doing some scratch, adhesion, and water testing on them, and so far they're holding up really well.

I'm planning to make these available with different sports, mascots, names, numbers, etc.

Comment below and let me know what other schools or designs you think would look good on these!

Well, here's another project that wasn't on the to-do list! 😂

When I got my xTool Omni O1 UV printer set up, I realized the exhaust hose wasn't going to connect to my shop's 4-inch exhaust system.

So instead of ordering something and hoping it fit, I broke out the calipers, jumped into Tinkercad, and made my own adapter.

Figured since I already made it, I might as well share it. The 3D print file is available for free on Creality Cloud, and I've also added finished adapters to the THP shop for anyone who doesn't have a printer.

You can check it out here:

Another little workshop problem crossed off the list!

I've been working on something new at The Harvey Project and finally have it ready to share!

I'm now offering personalized photo snowflake Christmas ornaments!

They're about 4 inches across, laser cut from wood, and your photo is printed directly onto the ornament in full color. Great for family pictures, kids, pets, or whatever memory you want to put on the tree.

I also built an online designer so you can upload your own picture, adjust it how you want, and see what your ornament will look like before you order.

Everything is made right here in the shop, from cutting the ornament to printing the finished design.

Shipping is available anywhere in the US, and we also offer free local pickup in Peterstown, WV.

Want to order one? Just click the link below, upload your photo, customize your ornament, and add it to your cart. You can design and order the whole thing right on the website!

Not comfortable designing it yourself? Message me for information on how to order offline.

Discounts available for ordering duplicates of the same design.

I’ve spent today playing around with combining the laser and UV printer to turn regular photos into custom-shaped photo keychains. The first few turned out surprisingly well, but looking good on day one is the easy part.

So now they’re leaving the shop and going onto real sets of keys for a durability test. I want to see what happens after some time in pockets, purses, getting dropped, scratched and generally treated like an actual keychain.

These are prototypes only and aren’t available to order. Before this becomes anything more than an experiment, I want to know the material and print can actually hold up.
If they survive, there are a bunch of other ideas I want to try with the same process. If they don’t… we change something and try again.

I’ll share what they look like after they’ve had some real-world abuse.

THP Pricing Calculator is officially in PUBLIC BETA!

What started as an idea for a simple UV printing calculator has turned into a tool for figuring out what a job actually costs you to produce — materials, ink, machine time, labor, overhead, maintenance, profit, and a whole lot more.

Now I need people other than me using it.

Play around with it. Put real jobs through it. Try weird numbers. Use it on your phone. If something doesn't make sense, a calculation looks wrong, something breaks, or there's a feature you think it needs, tell me.

There are feedback and equipment-request tools built directly into the calculator, and I'm using the beta to figure out what works, what doesn't, and where this thing goes next.

Go try to break it:

This is very much a Build. Test. Learn. Repeat. project — except now I need some of you to help with the Test part. 😂

The Harvey Project hit the road today! 🚗

Today’s project took us to the PFG Food Show, doing a little homework for Finley's Dairy Bar before next season.

We spent the day checking out new products, sampling WAY too much food 😂, talking with vendors, and looking for new ideas we can bring back to the dairy bar next year. This thing was MASSIVE with the Hickory NC Convention Center being hosting over 230 vendors! We got checked in at 10am and didn't hit the last vendor booth until almost 3pm.

Just because the doors are closed for the season doesn't mean were kicked back relaxing all winter. The off-season gives us time to look at what worked, what didn’t, and what we can do differently next time. Better ingredients, new menu items, better pricing, and a better overall experience for our customers is our top priority!

I had planned on getting some video while we were there, but the place was absolutely PACKED, so pictures will have to do this time!

Tomorrow will officially be our last day of the 2026 season! 🍦

We had originally planned to stay open through October 3rd, but with inventory getting low, we’ve decided that tomorrow, Saturday, September 26th, will be our final regular day of the season.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us during our first season at Finley’s! We’ve learned a lot this year, and we truly appreciate every order, visit, share, and kind word along the way.

Come see us tomorrow and help us finish out the season! As we’ve said before, once something is gone, it’s gone, so availability is be limited.

We’ll also likely be doing a final inventory purge next week to clear out what remains in the ice cream freezers, so keep an eye on the page for details. 👀

We hope everyone has a safe and happy winter and holiday season, and we hope to see you again next season!

Playing around with some of the new materials I got in and made this little display for The Harvey Project.

This is 1/8" faux maple, laser engraved and cut, with a slot-fit base and I love how it turned out!

I can see a bunch of possibilities for this — QR code stands, table displays, social media signs, wedding/event signage, menus, etc.

Every time I make one thing with this laser, I end up adding five more projects to the never ending list 😂
