The man was one of a kind. A legend. RIP Victor.
Victor Morfessis
January 13, 1929 – July 3, 2022
Born on Homeric Ithaka, my father, Victor Morfessis, emigrated to the United States in 1955 seeking a better life after enduring more than a decade of occupation, famine, civil war, and a devastating earthquake. He quickly embraced his new homeland; registering to vote, buying his first car (after passing his road test on the 4th try!!) and pursuing the American Dream. He spent nearly 50 years in the restaurant business – working lunch counters across Manhattan, including over 10 years at Teddy’s Luncheonette in Jamaica, and the last 25 years of his career at the Baldwin Coach establishing life-long friendships with many of his co-workers and customers. In 1961 he married my mom and shortly thereafter built their home in Valley Stream where he lived until the last months of his life tending his flowers and vegetable garden. He was a very loving and generous father who instilled in me a strong work ethic, the value of an education and pride in my Ithakan roots. That generosity and love extended to my wife and 10-fold to my children, Stella and his namesake, Victor. He will be missed.
