BioBlitz Event
Date: Saturday, August 1, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Location: Buladean Community Center
12190 NC-226, Bakersville, NC 28705
Attendees will choose one of 6–8 topic groups, with approximately 10–20 people per group, each led by experts in that category. These expert naturalists will guide participants in identifying as many species as possible while exploring and learning about the amazing variety of plants, animals, insects, and natural habitats in our mountain community.
We will begin at the Buladean Community Center with discussion, then head out to selected locations for exploring, education, and species identification. Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy will open several of their preserves to participants. Locations will include areas such as Wiles Creek up Blevins Branch, Big Rock Creek Preserve up Hughes Gap, the Appalachian Trail, and more.
Afterward we will return to the Center for a recap of what everyone discovered!
Please make sure to bring: lunch, two litres of water, raingear, and any personal items. Long pants and closed toed shoes are recommended, but not required.
Important reminders:
Please leave pets at home. Kids who are able to hike up to 4 miles are welcome to attend, as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the event.
