At 1856 – Culinary Residence, the Beacon of Light Award recognizes team members who embody excellence, hospitality, professionalism, and a commitment to creating exceptional guest experiences.

Please join us in celebrating our most recent recipients:

✨ Rai Dwipayana joined the 1856 team in January as a server assistant and bartender. Originally from Ubud, Bali, Rai is completing a J-1 internship with us and is known for his positive attitude, warm hospitality, and the genuine smile he brings to every shift.

✨ Aiyanna Glover joined the team in January as a server. A local Auburn native and social work student, Aiyanna's dedication, work ethic, and passion for serving others have quickly made her one of our top performers.

✨ Yudha Pangestu joined 1856 in February as a bartender. Originally from Bali, Yudha brings experience from New Orleans and Atlanta and has already made a lasting impact on our beverage program. His latest accomplishment? Creating our new summer cocktail menu, launching June 9th!

Congratulations to Rai, Aiyanna, and Yudha on this well-deserved recognition. We are grateful for the talent, heart, and hospitality each of you brings to 1856 every day. ✨🧡

This past week, 1856–Culinary Residence went "On the Road", traveling to Birmingham for a special event with HelmsBriscoe. It was a pleasure to connect with event planners from across the region and showcase the elevated hospitality, exceptional cuisine, and personalized experiences that define 1856–Culinary Residence.

From France to Auburn, Chef Joël Antunes brings decades of globally recognized culinary experience to every dish at 1856 – Culinary Residence.

Recently featured by Food & Wine, Chef Joël shared one of his favorite French ingredients to cook with: Boeuf de Salers, a prized cattle breed from south central France known for its rich flavor and exceptional quality.

“Higher elevation grazing results in higher quality, leaner beef,” Chef Joël says. “I like to use it for oxtail stew alongside a big piece of country bread with cheese, which is a very popular dish in the south of France.”
