As we’re still celebrating Juneteenth, Ms. Opal Lee 🙅🏾‍♀️ deserves ALL of our attention‼️ A Texas native, she has fought for DecadeS for Juneteenth to be declared an official federal holiday. At 93 years young, Ms. Lee knows no limits, including trekking 🚶🏾‍♀️from Ft. Worth, TX to D.C., and now touring SE Texas to collect signatures of support. She walks 2.5 miles at each stop to represent the 2.5 years enslaved brothers and sisters in Texas waited after the Emancipation Proclamation to finally gain their freedom. Ms. Lee’s activism also includes ensuring ✊🏾 communities have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, a tradition she’s well-known for. Oddly enough, June 19 marks the anniversary in which a white mob torched her family’s home in Marshall, TX 81 years ago.

Sis. Lee needs our help to bring Juneteenth to the federal level. She has over 700k of the 1MM petition signatures required to make this thing move [see the PETITION LINK in my BIO]. Let’s rally together, flip that 🔥, and show love for Ms. Opal Lee and her life’s work. We owe it to her and to those who came before us ✊🏾. Family, please salute and thank her properly—spread her story + sign & share the petition 🔴⚫️🟢🖤.
