Love Payne’s…I worked the Soda Fountain counter years ago 💛

At Payne’s Sandwich Shop & Soda Fountain in Scottsboro, Alabama you can enjoy some of the tastiest milkshakes, ice cream treats, and old-fashioned diner food while stepping into a piece of local history. Payne’s began as a drug store in 1869 and moved to its longtime spot on the courthouse square in 1891. The pharmacy closed in 1991, but the soda fountain carried on, keeping the classic counters and throwback feel that generations of locals remember. Its 20-foot soda fountain counter was added during a renovation in the 1930s and is still a centerpiece today. Payne’s was also the first place in Scottsboro known to sell Coca-Cola. Stop in for Coke floats, sundaes, banana splits, milkshakes, sandwiches, and the famous red slaw dog topped with ketchup-based slaw. Southern Living has also included Payne’s among its standout retro diners in the South.

Woohoo 🎉 WILDWOOD DELI took 2nd Place for the 2026 Summer Sippin event 🍍 Pineapples are the universal symbol of Hospitality, so this year we featured a fresh Pineapple Margarita sip 😋 It was cool, refreshing and we are so excited that so many of you stopped in to share in it and visit with us to learn more about what we offer at Wildwood!
