(665)

Heirloom Café & Fresh Market is a farm to table café and gourmet market located at 815 N. Chase St., in the former Amoco station at the corner of Boulevard and Chase St. Open for Lunch & Dinner Monday through Friday, Brunch & Dinner Saturday, and Brunch only on Sunday. Heirloom is owned by Jessica Rothacker and her father, Travis Burch. Heirloom's Mission is to create community, celebrate local fa

rmers, and tell a story through food. The name Heirloom evokes a certain image in one’s mind. In essence, an heirloom helps you remember the past, specifically a time that is fondly remembered, a time spent with friends and family. It reminds you that you were a part of something important. As we progress into modern life, we sometimes forget to take a step back and remember the things that were once important to us and to our communities. At Heirloom, we invite you to remember those things. Our staff promises to greet you with a genuine smile, to remember you and your preferences once you begin joining us regularly, to make you know that you are important to us. Heirloom is open lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. In addition to the lunch and dinner hours listed elsewhere on this site, we are open for brunch from 9:30-2:30 Saturday and Sunday

The menu at Heirloom is highly seasonal, reflecting the week’s harvest in its dishes. There will be something for every type of eater on the menu, with our goal to cater to everyone from vegans to carnivores. We will source as much food as we can locally, and we commit to serving sustainably produced vegetables, meats, dairy and seafood.

Enough with thoughts and prayers. We need to fight for the lives of our children and for those that live their lives in service of helping our children learn and develop. We cannot stand by and let someone like Mike Collins be re-elected. His crass, gun-worshiping ads only scratch the surface of why he cannot be allowed to continue on his path.

Lexy Doherty for Congress provides a breath of fresh air for the 10th Congressional District. She wants to offer a place at the table for everyone, including the families that lost someone yesterday. She is quoted as follows:

“My anger only grows toward people in power who actively work to ensure that more and more weapons find their way into the hands of those intent on terror. After the Biden administration finally closed the ‘gun show loophole’ this year, Congressman Collins was an eager sponsor of Representative Andrew Clyde’s bill to stop the new law requiring background checks at gun shows and other sites of unregulated sale.

“Reasonable people are merely asking for the most basic regulations on guns. But with each new tragic slaughter of our precious American children, it becomes clearer that a hardline faction of our political class is perfectly willing to accept these massacres as a cost of maintaining unregulated access to weapons of war.”

Are you looking for something tangible you can do? My parents, Susie and Travis Burch, and I are hosting a Garden Party Dinner on Sunday, September 22nd, as a fundraiser for Lexy Doherty's campaign. Tickets are $300, but that money goes directly toward helping Doherty push Mike Collins out of office. I know the price is steep, and many people I know can't afford to give that much, but if you can, please consider doing so. If you can't make it, there is an opportunity to just donate to the campaign on the event page.

As it stands, this will be an intimate (30 guests) outdoor dinner, with beverages provided by Jerry and Krista Lark Slater, courses provided by me as dearhearts, OMD Supper Club, Mimi Maumus, Marcos Munoz, and one other chef to be named. We can accommodate dietary restrictions if notified in advance. This will be a great event. Lexy Doherty will join your table of 6 for one course where you will have the opportunity to speak in a smaller group setting.

The support for Lori, Charli, and Henry through the Mealtrain campaign has been incredible. We know that not everyone in our community can make it to the farm stand or the Athens Farmers Market. For those of you who'd like to help the Pastures of Rose Creek sustain its farm operations in other ways, here's how:

The Heirloom Family's hearts will be hurting forever. William Breedlove was our first farmer. We had our first farm dinner at Pastures of Rose Creek. Will hosted the Heirloom Family for many farm tours, hay rides, parties at the pond. His smile brightened our days when he brought us beef for our burgers and eggs for brunch. Will was part of the Heirloom Family and he treated us as a part of his family. This is a deep loss for the Heirloom Family, for the Athens Farmers Market Community, and for the community at large. Please do what you can to support Lori, Charli and Henry by making a trip out to the farm stand, making a donation, and buying their beef and eggs when they return to the markets.

In the midst of the sudden and surreal loss of William Breedlove, the heart of our pastures, we are profoundly grateful for the kindness and support we have received from you all. Right now, our hope is to honor Will by continuing to provide nourishment to our community.

We are hoping to return to the markets as soon as possible, and anticipate being back at the Athens Farmers Market and Grant Park Market this weekend or next.

In the meantime, the best way to support the farm is to purchase directly from our Farmstand (just past 1051 Rosecreek Drive). We accept payments and donations in cash, check, Venmo () and cash app ($pastures1051).

Above all else, thank you for your continued love and support ❤️

I had the pleasure of meeting Clint from today. He’s in the early stages of regenerative agriculture, raising cattle on his land and would like to diversify into pasture raised hens for eggs. He is looking for a full time employee to grow and manage the pastured bird operation. He is coming at this in all the right ways and is very passionate about farming as a form of ecological preservation. If you know someone who might be interested in this position, please reach out to him.

Today we closed the doors for the final time at 815 N Chase St. While Heirloom finished up months ago for most people, Travis and I have been chugging along clearing out and cleaning up the space, tying up loose ends, and watching this building transform from a working restaurant into an empty space piece by piece and day by day. We finished cleaning on Friday, and turned over the keys this morning. The landlord and the new stewards of the space are closing on the property this afternoon.

We often joked that Heirloom was my restaurant baby, but in so many ways it truly was like a child to me. My firstborn. Everyone that was a part of it watched it grow and with it came growing pains. Triumphant cheers resounded as we reached new heights and plenty of tears flowed and fists were shaken when we had our failures. For many years we picked ourselves up and tried again when we failed and pushed ourselves forward as things grew, all at the expense of our personal lives, our social lives, and our physical and mental health. Through it all we created something that we were truly proud of, and our father daughter relationship grew stronger as our business partnership grew stronger.

Finally though, this chapter has come to an end, and while some significant weight has been lifted, there is also significant sadness and a deep sense of accomplishment that goes with it.

Now it is time to take some breaths and prepare for what comes next, whatever that may be.

We have loved serving you and it has been our honor. Thank you for everything. One last time, all the love to all of you.
