12/21/2025
So much has transpired since December 21, 2005. As we recollect on our journey, it is difficult to express our thoughts on this milestone adequately without rambling but here goes. First of all, we feel incredibly grateful, for every employee who's spent any time navigating the chaos of 12 Bones. Their countless hours of hard work and dedication are why 12 Bones has become more than the sum of its parts.
For so many amazing patrons, many of whom remember the good ol days at the woefully small original shack by the river. We’ve had visitors from everywhere but it’s our regulars and locals who are truly the heartbeat.
For the countless setbacks along the way…break-ins, theft, weather damage, equipment problems, fire, staffing issues, supply chain disruptions, unruly customers, relocating both restaurants, thoughts of divorce or even selling the business because it’s just too much to handle…you name it and we’ve likely experienced it.
For all those who supported us when we were at our lowest as we dealt with the overwhelming uncertainty of Covid and then Hurricane Helene. No doubt, we would not have survived without the generosity of others. We're reminded of the quote, “No man is a failure who has friends”.
For all of the mistakes we made along the way…and we’ve made more than we care to think about but the lessons have been invaluable.
For Tom and Sabra, the creators of 12 Bones, who dared to dream and then were somehow willing to take a gamble on us when we were beyond “green”. We've often thought, “What would Tom and Sabra do?” and we hope we’ve managed to honor the legacy they built with care.
For each other. We simply could not have handled it all alone. Make no mistake, this s**t is hard!
Maybe we’re gluttons for punishment or maybe we simply appreciate all that 12 Bones has become just like everyone else. In the end, it always comes down to how you make people feel. Our goal has always remained the same...serve up home cookin’ with a little Southern hospitality and some Asheville love! Here’s to another 20 years (and more) for 12 Bones!
With love,
AK & BK
