Attention, Arlington Community!
Weβve received multiple reports of scammers impersonating federal agents (like the FBI, DEA, USPIS, and U.S. Marshals) trying to trick residents. These callers might accuse you of missing jury duty, owing IRS taxes, or even being involved in mail fraud or illegal activities.
What to watch for:
π Calls asking for money via money orders, gift cards, or electronic funds.
π΅οΈββοΈ Requests for your personal info like SSN, driver's license, or birth date.
π« Claims that local police are part of the scam.
Remember:
Legitimate law enforcement will NEVER ask for money over the phone or pressure you to give out personal information immediately.
If youβre unsure, hang up and contact the agency in person or directly using official numbers.
Be Smart:
π Verify the caller by contacting the agency they claim to represent.
π Donβt be pressured. Scammers can sound convincing, but you have the right to question and verify.
π Stay vigilant and protect yourself! If something feels off, it probably is.
