Juneteenth marks the day that freedom finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It stands as a powerful reminder that freedom, justice, and equality have often required perseverance, courage, and the determination of those who refused to give up hope.

Today, we reflect on our nation’s history, honor the resilience and achievements of the Black community, and recognize the profound impact Black Americans have had on every aspect of our culture, communities, and country. Juneteenth is both a celebration of freedom and an opportunity to learn, remember, and continue working toward a future where opportunity and dignity are shared by all.
