Learn CPR.

For every minute a person is in cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by approximately 10%.

That means they may only have minutes.

In those moments, you're calling 911.
You're panicking.
You're praying.
You're waiting.

But what if you could be the reason they lived?

What if you knew exactly what to do while help was on the way?

CPR can keep blood flowing to the brain and vital organs until EMS arrives. Those few minutes can make all the difference.

Not all lifesavers wear uniforms.

Sometimes they're parents.
Friends.
Coworkers.
Neighbors.

Sometimes they're YOU.

Because the life you save could be someone you love.

❤️ Learn CPR. Be prepared. Be the difference.

Today, we remember the Charleston 9 and their sacrifice.

On June 18, 2007, the Charleston Fire Department and Charleston Firefighters Association - Local 61 lost nine brave firefighters while battling a devastating blaze at a furniture store. These heroes were memorialized on June 22, 2007. A procession of more than 300 fire engines, ladder trucks, ambulances, and command vehicles stretched approximately 7.5 miles and moved single-file along a route which passed each of the three fire stations from which firefighters were lost, as well as past the site of the fatal fire.

Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and anyone with medical conditions.

We remind our residents and visitors to:

✅Stay hydrated,
✅Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day
✅Check on neighbors, family members, and pets
✅NEVER leave kids or pets unattended in the vehicle

Know the signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, heavy sweating, nausea, weakness, or fainting. Move to a cool place, drink water, and call 911 immediately if symptoms become severe or if someone may be experiencing heat stroke (confusion, altered mental status, slurred speech, loss of consciousness, hot, dry skin or profuse sweating, seizures, very high body temperature).

Remember to stay cool, hydrated, and safe!

The members of Annapolis Professional Firefighters Local 1926 are proud to stand alongside our brothers and sisters of Anne Arundel County Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 1563 in endorsing Pete Smith for Anne Arundel County Executive.

Throughout his career in public service, Pete Smith has demonstrated a commitment to supporting first responders, strengthening public safety, and ensuring that the men and women who protect our communities have the resources they need to serve effectively.

As firefighters and paramedics, we understand the importance of leadership that listens, collaborates, and values the role public safety professionals play in protecting our residents. Pete has shown that commitment, and we are confident he will continue to be a strong advocate for firefighters, law enforcement, emergency medical services, and the communities we proudly serve.

Together with IAFF Local 1563, we proudly endorse Pete Smith for Anne Arundel County Executive.

I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Annapolis Professional Firefighters Local 1926.

The Annapolis Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 1926 FirePAC is proud to endorse Carolyn Grammas for Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney.

As firefighters and paramedics, we work alongside our law enforcement partners every day in service to the citizens of Anne Arundel County. Effective public safety depends on trust, communication, and strong leadership from all parts of the criminal justice system.

Unfortunately, the current State’s Attorney has lost the confidence and trust of the rank-and-file members of public safety agencies throughout Anne Arundel County. Firefighters, police officers, corrections officers, and other first responders deserve a State’s Attorney who will work collaboratively with those on the front lines while maintaining fairness, accountability, and integrity.

We believe Carolyn Grammas is that leader.

We are honored to stand with Carolyn and appreciate her commitment to public safety and a justice system that earns the confidence of the communities it serves.

Please join us in supporting Carolyn Grammas for Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney.

A job well done to the members of the Local 1926 / Annapolis Fire Department who made history today by administering whole blood to a critically injured trauma patient for the first time.

Faced with a serious and rapidly evolving emergency, our firefighters and paramedics relied on their training, experience, and sound decision-making to recognize the patient’s needs and take immediate action. Because whole blood was available and our crews were prepared to use it, lifesaving treatment began within minutes of patient contact rather than waiting for arrival at a trauma center or the arrival of an air medical crew.

This incident highlights exactly why programs like prehospital blood administration matter. The quick actions of our members helped stabilize a patient suffering from traumatic injuries and changed what could have been a much different outcome before the Maryland State Police helicopter even arrived on scene.

We are incredibly proud of the professionalism, dedication, and commitment to excellence displayed by our members. Their willingness to embrace advanced training and cutting-edge patient care continues to make a difference when seconds count and lives hang in the balance.

Outstanding work by everyone involved.

The members of Annapolis Professional Firefighters Local 1926 would like to sincerely thank Mayor Jared Littman and the members of the City Council who voted against the proposed amendment to remove funding for the Peak Time Medic Unit from the FY2027 budget.

This vote represents more than a budget line item. It is a recognition of the growing demand for EMS services in our community and the need to provide timely, reliable emergency medical care to the residents, visitors, and workforce of Annapolis. Every day, our firefighters and paramedics see firsthand the strain placed on our current EMS system as call volumes continue to rise.

The Peak Time Medic Unit is a practical solution designed to place resources where and when they are needed most. Preserving this funding is an important step toward improving service delivery, reducing transport delays, and ensuring ambulances remain available when someone calls 911 during our busiest hours.

While we are grateful for this vote, our work is not finished. The final hurdle still lies ahead as the City Council considers the FY2027 budget as a whole. We remain hopeful that our elected leaders will continue to prioritize public safety and support the investments necessary to meet the needs of our community.

We encourage residents who value a strong emergency response system to stay engaged and continue supporting the firefighters and paramedics who serve this city 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Thank you to everyone who has stood with us in this effort. The fight for adequate staffing and resources continues, but today was an important step in the right direction.
