We are so grateful to the Andover Historical Museum for sharing a little piece of our Pizza Hut history. ❤️
Being part of the Andover community means so much to us, and it’s pretty special to see the memories, people, and history that have made our store what it is today.
Thank you for preserving the stories that make Andover special—and for including us in them. We’re proud to be a small part of this community we call home!
We can’t wait to see you tomorrow.
A SLICE OF ANDOVER HISTORY: PIZZA HUT
**FUNDRAISER TOMORROW SEPT 24**
For generations, Pizza Hut Andover, KS has been more than a place to grab a slice, it's been a place where our community has gathered. It's where birthday parties are celebrated, where ball teams gather after a game, where friends and families come together for an evening out, or where many experienced their first job as a teenager.
Its a place where generations of retirees meet for lunch, where business meetings have taken place over pizza, and where countless conversations, celebrations and memories unfolded around the table.
There is one moment in particular when that familiar restaurant became something much more important to our community. During the 1991 Andover Tornado people sought refuge in the basement of Pizza Hut. The basement became a place of protection as the tornado moved through our community. In fact, many people who were next door at Livingston's were able to make it to the basement at Pizza Hut just in time, as the monster storm tore up our town, taking lives. The Pizza Hut building escaped with no major structural damage, just cosmetic, that was quickly fixed, but it never shut it down. It continued to operate and feed people during our towns greatest moment of need.
The Pizza Hut story has change with Andover. Many people may not realize that there have actually been multiple Hut locations in Andover. The original operation started at 320 W. Central Avenue. This is where the offices of Adams & Associates (a tax preparation service) is currently located. That location was not originally owned by a local franchisee, but the corporate office.
In 1986, Ed Sapp built the new Pizza Hut in Andover located at 307 N Andover Rd, replacing the earlier location. This is the Hut showcased in our attached photograph. It eventually underwent another major transformation in April of 2006. Edward Powell was hired to rebuild the Pizza Hut into its "Italian Bistro" era, which included filling in the basement. Then in April 2009 it was again converted to the current "Wingstreet".
As we step back and look at our Andover history, and a place like Pizza Hut, we are reminded that a building can be so much more than brick, mortar and a red roof. It can become part of the community's memory, and relationships shared over a slice of pizza. Pizza Hut has a major place in the , which they are still helping us celebrate today!
Dine at Pizza Hut today from 4PM - 8PM and TELL THEM YOU ARE SUPPORTING THE MUSEUM! 20% of sales from DINE IN, CARRY OUT & DELIVERY will be donated to the Andover Historical Museum to help in our efforts to capture all our towns history.
