We understand all this as well. It is hard to predict how much dough to make for the day to not sell out before posted closing hours, due to unpredictable large orders. We refuse to cut corners on quality to produce more quantity. We are beyond grateful for our guests that show up and support us year round that appreciate the scratch made food we serve. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for shining some light on keeping the doors and window open. 💕
💔🍩 A Little Perspective From a Small Business Owner 🍩💔
Lately, I’ve seen quite a few negative reviews directed at small businesses, including one we recently received ourselves. This post is not meant to call anyone out or bash anyone’s opinion. Everyone is entitled to their feelings and experiences. But I do hope it offers a little perspective from the other side of the counter.
My husband is a one-man show in our bakery. Every single donut is hand-cut and made from scratch daily. There are no frozen products, no automated production lines, and no giant corporate kitchen behind the scenes. It’s simply him, working long hours before most people are even awake.
Our son and I help wherever we can, but anyone who has owned or worked in a bakery knows that making fresh products from scratch every day is no easy task. It’s a labor of love, but it’s also incredibly unpredictable.
We truly do our best to make enough donuts to last through our posted hours. However, we have always been transparent that we may sell out early. Our goal is never to close early or turn customers away. In fact, every day we wish we had enough product for everyone who walks through the door.
One of the biggest challenges we face is large and specific orders that aren’t placed in advance. When several large orders come in unexpectedly, it can have a huge impact on our daily donut stock. That’s why I constantly encourage customers to place large or specific orders by 7:00 AM the day before. Doing so helps us plan production, make more donuts, and ensure you get exactly what you’re hoping for.
Unfortunately, we can’t always predict how many customers will walk through the doors or how many dozens will be purchased on any given day. If we could, we’d have mastered the impossible by now! 😅
As the only small, family-owned donut shop currently serving the Wasilla area with fresh, made-from-scratch donuts, we’re doing everything we can to keep up with demand. We know it’s frustrating when you arrive and we’re sold out, and for that, I truly am sorry.
All I ask is that we remember to show each other a little grace. Small businesses aren’t perfect. Most of us are simply doing the very best we can with the people, time, and resources we have.
