💕 🌟 100 Years of Memories.

“We learned how to adapt and change direction when needed while still delivering a successful experience for our customers.”

For Sophie Fox, B.S. Culinary Food Science ’26, The Tearoom was a place to learn what really happens behind the scenes of a restaurant, from navigating the unexpected to working together to create a great experience for guests.

And some of the best lessons weren't on the menu at all. They were the friendships made, memories created and confidence gained along the way.

100 years of learning, adapting and making memories at The Tearoom. ❤️💛

💕 🌟 100 Years of Memories.

12,000 cherry pies. Countless lessons. A lifetime of memories. 🍒

As department chair, Mary Gregoire saw firsthand how The Tearoom gave students real-world experience in food production, customer service, teamwork and leadership. She encouraged students to “think like a manager,” no matter what role they were filling that day.

Decades later, the lessons have lasted. And so have the recipes. Gregoire still makes one of her favorite Tearoom recipes: Chinese cabbage salad with white French dressing.

100 years of The Tearoom. 100 years of lessons that last. ❤️💛

🌟 💕 100 Years of Memories.

🍽️ “People may forget what was on the menu, but they rarely forget how you made them feel.”

For Dr. Mark A. Kaestner, B.S. ’90, The Tearoom was more than a classroom or a restaurant. It was where he learned lessons about teamwork, leadership, resilience and the importance of serving others.

A century of meals. A century of memories. And generations of students learning lessons that last far beyond the table.

Here’s to 100 years of The Tearoom. ❤️💛

🎉 100 years. Countless meals. Generations of memories.

For a century, The Tearoom has been serving up more than delicious food. It’s been preparing students for careers in food service and hospitality while giving guests plenty of reasons to come back for seconds.

From deviled eggs and asparagus with rarebit sauce to cherry pie tarts and glazed ham balls, The Tearoom has been part classroom, part gathering place and, for 100 years, a beloved Iowa State tradition. ❤️💛

Come celebrate a century of memories at The Tearoom’s 100th Anniversary Open House!

100 Years of Memories. ❤️💛

For Joan Bice Underwood, Iowa State was more than the place where she earned a degree. It was where she developed the skills, values and connections that would shape her life and influence generations of her family.

Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Joan arrived at Iowa State in 1948 to study home economics education. Like students in today’s College of Health and Human Sciences, her education combined academic study with practical, hands-on experiences designed to prepare students for their future.
