so many new faces have popped up around here, so, it only makes sense for me to reintroduce myself!
Hi! My name is Makenna French. I am the girl behind the business! I have owned and operated Kenna’s Cakes since I was 16 years old. You are probably wondering, how could you possibly start a business at 16?! Well, it wouldn’t be possible without my family and teachers as amazing role models and supporters.
I have always loved to bake- ever since my mom would let me turn on the oven. My family would come home to cakes, cupcakes, muffins, banana bread, you name it, because the kitchen is where I had FUN!
In the fall of 2020, I was In the kitchen baking and made a batch of pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. My parents joked that they were so good I could sell them. A few days later, a well known family in my community lost a large portion of their farm equipment to a barn fire. My highschool (Northern Heights) was making and donating meals to the family, and brainstorming fundraising ideas. I decided my contribution would be baking cupcakes and donating all of the profit. I ended up making about $300 in one sale! After that success, my FACS teacher and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) sponsor, Misty DeDonder, strongly encouraged me to create a business and compete in the “entrepreneurship” category of FCCLA star events. I ended up selling enough cupcakes to fund my way to nationals and placed 9th in the nation in entrepreneurship.
I had created the foundation of my business through FCCLA and from there, my business took off, but not without dedication. I juggled my senior year of highschool, 4 years of college, and now working on 1 year post grad while running Kenna’s Cakes and keeping other jobs. I am excited that I can now finally hone in on investing and growing the Kenna’s Cakes community!
thank you all for being here!! none of this would be possible without your support, likes, shares, reviews, and recommendations! 💖🧁🍰
