Unfortunately our bar is one of the bars that the city has revoked our license. I have not spoke up because I figured with the black and white proof of what’s actually going on downtown that was presented before and during our hearing it would have been enough for us to keep our late liquor license. I own the resturant part of the business and revoking the license will not only hurt the bar revenue but will also hurt my food as well. As most of you know I serve food in our bar until 3AM! Been spending money on marketing for 10 months. Welp unfortunately my food sales are down 46.8% from the previous 21 days! We started shutting the bar down at 1AM when we received the letter to show a sign of good faith that we have no problem working with the city. (We did not get asked to shut down early prior to the notification of this meeting whatsoever.) We want things to be better as well! We do not find it “safe” outside what’s so ever. The congregating outside, the full bottles of alcohol, the fighting, and just unruly behavior. I proposed a solution to help clean up the streets of downtown Alton in the hearing we had and it seems like that didn’t matter even tho it’s what a lot of larger city’s do to control night life and make sure everyone is safe. But instead of listening and taking in the proposal and working together as a community for our most profitable hours of the week are now revoked. We make more money from 12-3AM Friday and Saturday then any other time of the week. Which is unfortunate because we are open for dinner as well, and I do ask the community to please come support us during these hours as well because with loosing the late night it will be very strenuous on my business. Which is very sad because anyone that knows me knows I have been working so hard and this is very hard to see happening right now when all I’ve ever wanted to do is run a great small business and when I seen what was happening downtown after not being down there for so long I’ve done nothing but try to improve what’s going on. Please sign this petition because changing the times the bar close will not solve the problem.. when the problem is not the bars. The problem is what’s going on in the street. Punishing the bar owners is not the move.
