🚨 SURPRISE! THE RIVER RAT BAKE SHACK IS OPEN ON A MONDAY! 🚨

No school for the kiddos? Off work today? Well, apparently I’m still mentally preparing for the Harvest Market because I baked like I was feeding the entire village of Algonquin. 🤦‍♀️😂

Bring Back the Downtown Algonquin Farmers Market!

Remember that bustling Saturday at Harvest Market? When Main Street was filled with families, fresh produce, local makers, and real community energy? We can have that every month, and we’re asking the Village of Algonquin to make it happen.

A monthly Farmers & Makers Market on Downtown’s Main Street would bring life back to our community. It would support local farmers, bakers, and small business owners with an affordable place to sell. It would bring customers downtown who stay to shop and eat at our existing restaurants. Most importantly, it would give us a reason to gather together as neighbors, every month from April through October.

We’re not asking for something brand new, we’re asking to bring back what Algonquin once had. A simple pilot program, seven Saturdays a year, to revive the heart of our downtown. If you believe in supporting local businesses and strengthening our community, we need your voice. Sign and share this petition with neighbors who would care.

🍎 APPLE ORCHARD WEEK IS COMING TO THE BAKE SHACK! 🍎

We’ve made a few little changes to our October schedule, so grab your calendar before you show up at my house wondering where the cinnamon rolls are. 😂

This Sunday, October 11th, we’re celebrating all things APPLE! 🍏🍎

If you’re looking for some fantastic apple picking this fall, head over to All Seasons Apple Orchard, Woodstock, Il because their apples are phenomenal right now! We’re taking full advantage of apple season and dedicating Sunday’s menu to all those cozy orchard flavors.

Okay… almost all apple. 👀

The Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Rolls have been flying off the shelves, so I’m sneaking a small batch of those onto the menu too because apparently y’all are not ready to let them go. 🎃😂

And now for a little schedule switcheroo:

🍂 Sunday, October 11: OPEN at 8 AM
🍂 Sunday, October 18: CLOSED
🍂 Sunday, October 25: OPEN at 9 AM until sold out

Originally we planned to be open the 18th and closed the 25th, but we’re flipping those dates around.

Fall in the Midwest gives us approximately 14 minutes to enjoy the leaves before everything turns brown and we’re scraping ice off our windshields. 😂 So this bakery-owning mama is taking a little time to enjoy the season with her kiddo. Sometimes Mom Life gets first dibs. ❤️🍁

The 9 AM opening on October 25 is ONLY for that weekend. After that, we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled cinnamon-roll chaos.

🍂 Turn the sound up for this one… because making your own chai spice is also ✨therapy✨.

Here’s your reminder that you don’t always need to hunt down a specialty spice blend at the grocery store. Chances are, everything you need is already hanging out in your spice cabinet.

A little measuring. A little mixing. A whole lot of fall in one jar. 🤎

And if you’re a chai tea person? THIS is your season.

Homemade chai spice is ridiculously easy to make and you can use it in so many ways:

☕ Stir it into coffee, lattes or hot chocolate
🥞 Add it to pancake or waffle batter
🍎 Sprinkle it over oatmeal or baked apples
🧁 Mix it into muffins, cakes or cookies
🤎 Make chai-spiced cinnamon rolls
🍿 Sprinkle it over popcorn with a little sugar
🥛 Add a pinch to whipped cream or frosting
🍪 Or make chai blondie bars… which I did, and they were RIDICULOUSLY divine.

Basically, anywhere cinnamon can go, chai spice can probably show up wearing a much fancier fall outfit. 🍁

Save this one because once you start making your own spice blends, that tiny $7 grocery-store jar starts looking a little suspicious. 😂
