GREENE APPRECATION DAY 💚
I spent $250 on billboards last week. Tomorrow, I decided I wanted to spend that same money a little differently. 🖤
A lot of y’all probably don’t know this, but I actually have a LOT of history on the other side of the mountain.
I was born at Augusta Health in Fishersville. I’ve lived in Staunton, Fishersville, and Waynesboro. I went to Tinkling Spring Preschool for a few days before I apparently cried my way out of there 😭, doubled back and did Pre-K and kindergarten at Ridgeview Christian School, graduated from Wilson Elementary, did sixth grade at Wilson Middle, and even had a few days at Kate Collins in Waynesboro.
But the second I came across that mountain, I knew Greene was going to be home.
And I genuinely don’t think I tell y’all enough how much I appreciate the community Underground has found here.
Even when I took my little DC detour, Jess Good and Jessica Morin drove an HOUR to come see me in Re*****on just to get their UG fix. 😭 Now I have at least a few people every single day driving up from Louisa.
But you don’t have to drive an hour for me to appreciate you.
You don’t have to be a UG Rewards member. You don’t have to come every week. Underground doesn’t even have to be your favorite coffee shop.
If you’ve stopped by this trailer and spent your money or liked a post of mine even ONCE, there is a genuine level of appreciation I have for that.
Because that’s your money.
Money you worked for. Money that doesn’t always come easy. Money that, when times are tight, could’ve gone toward gas, groceries, a bill, or that extra little something you’ve been wanting for yourself.
You took a chance with your wallet. You took time out of your day. You stood in my line (sometimes a MUCH longer line than I would’ve liked 😭) and trusted me to hand you something that was worth what you spent on it.
I don’t take that lightly. Ever.
And that’s exactly why I want other local businesses to feel some of the same love y’all have given Underground.
You’ll see me on Facebook supporting other coffee shops, restaurants, and small businesses all the time. I’ll recommend another coffee shop when I’m closed. I’ll make a post when I find something I love. I don’t care if somebody technically considers them my “competition.”
There is room for all of us.
So instead of buying another billboard, I took about that same $250 and put it right back into our local community.
I called two of my FAVORITE local treat makers Morgan’s Sweet Treats & WhiskedByKenz , and basically at a moment’s notice, they dropped what they were doing and made 88 cakesicles for me.
And I bought every single one. 😭
So TOMORROW in Greene, every drink purchased gets a completely FREE cakesicle while they last. NO CATCH!
I’m telling y’all tonight because I do want this to give somebody who maybe hasn’t stopped by in a while a little reason to come see us tomorrow. Maybe you’ve been meaning to come back. Maybe you’ve followed this page forever and still haven’t actually tried Underground. Maybe tomorrow is finally your day.
But I also don’t want this to become “EVERYBODY RUN TO UNDERGROUND, THEY’RE GIVING AWAY FREE STUFF.” 😭
Because the free cakesicle isn’t really the point.
Two other local small businesses got paid for their time, their ingredients, their talent, and their work before a single person ever comes to my window tomorrow.
Greene, thank you for supporting this ridiculous little coffee trailer. Thank you for sharing my posts. Thank you for bringing your friends. Thank you for waiting in my lines. Thank you for trusting me with money that you worked hard for.
And more than anything, thank you for letting me make this place home. 🖤
