Baking cookies and mixing granola are only part of the work at Together We Bake.

The Alexandria-based nonprofit employment social enterprise helps women build job skills, credentials, confidence and connections through an eight-week workforce-training program centered in a working commercial kitchen. Participants gain hands-on food-production experience, workplace and digital skills, and the opportunity to earn a nationally recognized ServSafe credential.

Since 2012, Together We Bake has supported more than 350 women navigating barriers to employment, including housing instability, justice involvement, recovery, recent immigration and major family transitions. The organization reports that 80 percent of participants graduate and 70 percent secure employment within six months.

Its 2026 Empowerment Breakfast—Together We Bake’s largest fundraiser of the year—is Friday, September 25, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town, 1767 King St. Tickets and sponsorships are available through the organization.
