We sadly take this moment and this platform to inform you that we WILL NOT be reopening the restaurant on Monday, January 11th or at any time in the foreseeable future. A variety of circumstances have combined to make this decision necessary and we hope that you will understand that it was not lightly considered.
Brass Lantern has been a part of this incredible community for 38 years and we are happy and proud beyond belief for the support and encouragement we have received from all of you who helped us achieve such a level of success during those years.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to the people of Alexandria and all the surrounding communities. We will certainly miss seeing you in the restaurant and will treasure the memories we made during those times together.
Stay well. Be safe. Show kindness. Be patient during these troubling times.
(A personal Postscript…. last September marked my 41st year as a restaurateur, 27 at Michael’s Cafe in Long Prairie and 14 at Brass Lantern. Throughout this journey I have been blessed to receive the support, encouragement and assistance of the woman who said “I do” three months into this journey, my beloved wife Cindy. As we navigate our way forward with the latest Executive Order from Governor Walz we have decided that we will close our restaurant for the coming four weeks. We feel it would be impractical to attempt carryout/curbside service as conditions were already difficult prior to this new order.
We are hopeful to be able to reopen if this temporary shutdown situation resolves in the four week period.
Our family's other restaurant, Traveler's Inn, located in downtown Alexandria, will be offering carryout/curbside service and we encourage you to call them at 320-763-4000 to arrange for you dining needs.
Our sincere thanks for all of the support and encouragement you have expressed during the past five months since we reopened after the initial shut down.
Our greatest wish for everyone is that you stay safe, healthy and in good spirits as we join together in a concerted effort to find our way back to our lives before this pandemic.
We will be open today, Friday, November 20th, for normal business hours.

As we navigate our way through the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic we feel it is important to let you all know that we continue to make every effort to provide a comfortable, safe and pleasant dining experience in our restaurant. Our staff remain committed to the safety guidance (masks, social distance seating plan, diligent sanitation practices) encouraged by our local Horizon Public Health team and the Minnesota Department of Health.
We are hopeful that the day is not far off that we might see a return to operations at pre-COVID levels but are also understanding that until then customer and staff safety remain a priority.
Thanks to all who have continued to patronize the Brass Lantern since our reopening 4 months ago. It helps to remind us of what a wonderful community we are a part of and reinforces our commitment to push on through this.

Heading into our fourth day of the statewide mask mandate and just wanted to give a "THANK YOU" shout out to all of our customers who are helping us to provide a safe and comfortable dining experience, not only for themselves but for others in the restaurant. It's definitely been the hot topic of conversation but everyone has remained very civil and understanding.
We continue to strive to comply with all directions from the state and will do so until the dial is turned again.

After nearly three months the end of the closure order appears to be in sight. Following the announcement today to allow indoor dining at 50% of capacity beginning next Wednesday, June 10th, we will be setting our sights on Friday, June 12 as our official reopening date. Because of the short notice we need the extra time to resupply our fresh food stocks, linens, PPE... recall staff and prepare the physical facility. Our dining areas are already arranged for safe, social distance seating with capacity limits in mind.
We appreciate all of the words of support and encouragement that you have directed our way during this difficult time. It has meant the world to all of us to know how much we have been missed.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks for all who have offered words of support and encouragement to us as we enter the uncharted waters of the statewide mandated restaurant shutdown. As of this writing we will be actively exploring the feasibility of providing some limited level of carry-out/curbside service as we know many of you depend upon us and our neighbors in the industry for your daily dining needs. Please check in with our page regularly so as not to miss any forthcoming announcements regarding our decisions. We will miss all of you who have been such dedicated supporters of our business but will also look forward to the day when this crisis has passed and we can go forward together in our return to normal.
