Ever wondered what it means when your coffee says it was processed using the natural process?☕️⁠
⁠
Coffee really starts as a cherry picked from a coffee plant. But before that coffee can become the green coffee bean we roast, the fruit surrounding the bean has to be removed.⁠
⁠
With the natural process, the whole coffee cherry is laid out on a patio or raised drying beds and left to dry in the sun. As the cherries slowly dry, they are regularly raked and turned to help them dry fully. As they're fully dried, the outer fruit is removed, leaving the green coffee bean inside.⁠

Because the coffee bean spends so much time surrounded by the fruit as it dries, naturally processed coffees often have more fruity, sweet notes than coffees processed using other methods.⁠

So the next time you see "natural process" on a bag of coffee, you'll know a little more about what happened before that coffee ever made it to the roaster!

Most of our coffee here at Thru The Flame is a light to medium roast, but we’ve had a few people asking for something a little darker. And we’re happy to finally offer one!

Then vs. now. Same roaster, better quality.✨️

When we bought this roaster at the beginning of our journey, it only had 200 hours on it. Now, over 15 years later, we're approaching 3,000 hours on the same roaster.

We've come a long way from where we started and we're looking forward to putting many more hours on this roaster as we continue to grow, learn, and roast great coffee.
