: Slots for our 1st Uganda Sign Language cohort are filling up faster. We are still accepting bookings.
A number of inquiries have been coming through about the course. We have tried our best to respond each and every inquiry and taken time to respond to several (FAQs):
1. Who can join the course?
The course is designed for beginners and anyone interested in developing practical Uganda Sign Language communication skills. You do not need any previous knowledge of Sign Language to join.
2. When does the first cohort start?
Our pioneer cohort is scheduled to begin in the third week of September 2026. Confirmed participants will receive the final reporting and class commencement details before the course begins.
3. How long is the course and when are classes held?
The programme runs for 10 weeks. Classes will be held on Thursday and Friday evenings from 5:00 PM–7:00 PM, with additional learning sessions on Saturday mornings. Saturday afternoons will also feature special open and interactive sessions with Deaf professionals and guest speakers.
4. Where will the training take place?
The training will take place within the shared cultural and learning space that brings together Silent Cafe, Alliance Française de Kampala and the German Cultural Society in Kampala. Participants will receive specific classroom information as part of their joining instructions.
5. How much does the course cost?
The full course fee is UGX 370,000 for the 10-week programme. A reservation payment is required to secure your place and forms part of the course fee. The reservation payment is non-refundable.
6. Will I receive a certificate after completing the course?
Yes. Participants who successfully complete the programme and meet the course requirements will receive a Certificate in Uganda Sign Language, examined and awarded by the Uganda National Association of the Deaf - UNAD.
To qualify for assessment and certification, participants are expected to maintain at least 70% attendance and complete payment of the course fees.
7. What will the learning experience be like?
This is not designed to be a sit-and-listen course. Learning will be practical, interactive and immersive, with opportunities to practise everyday communication directly with Deaf Sign Language users.
Participants will learn through guided classes, conversations, practical exercises and exposure to Deaf culture. Saturday sessions will further create opportunities to interact with Deaf professionals and invited guests, making Sign Language something you practise and experience not simply memorise.
8. How do I reserve my slot?
Send a WhatsApp message to +256769820630 or email [email protected] You will be guided on how to make the required non-refundable reservation payment of 70,000UGX. Once payment is confirmed, you will receive a receipt/acknowledgement confirming that your place has been reserved.
