Sugar corn, also maize (lat. Zéa máys ) is an annual herbaceous cultivated plant , the only cultural representative of the genus Corn (Zea) of the Cereals family (Poaceae). In addition to cultivated corn, the genus Maize includes four species - Zea diploperennis, Zea perennis, Zea luxurians, Zea nicaraguensis - and three wild-growing subspecies of Zea mays: ssp. parviglumis, ssp. mexicana and ssp. huehuetenangensis.
