Yesterday was another big day in the Rehema diary. We catered for 320 people attending the ordination service at the cathedral and hosted special guests including Jono Vink (co-founder of Rehema Cafe and Crafts) and Tim Swan from Anglican Aid Australia.

We feel so privileged to have been given the honour and huge responsibility of cooking for the former President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete and his entourage on Sunday at a special fundraising event hosted by the Diocese of Mara. Some of the team got to meet the President face to face and were delighted to hear that he thought the food was excellent and very delicious. We have the JK stamp of approval! It is a public holiday in Tanzania today and our whole team had time off to rest and relax. We went to visit our dear friend Anna (Mama Marge) this morning. She is recovering at home from her recent surgery and was glad to receive the love of all the Rehema women.

A number of our staff live in Nyambeshi - an impoverished village in the Mara region of NW Tanzania, and we support a few projects there including the 'chekecheya' (preschool).

For many years there was no pre-school in Nyambeshi and the closest primary school was a 40 minute walk away. The Rehema Project started a preschool in 2017 operating out of the church and in 2019 the fabulous volunteers from the British charity GO Make A Difference in Tanzania (https://www.gomakeadifference.co.uk/) (GO MAD) built a school building.

One classroom of two was completed and has been in regular use since then and is a real blessing to so many families with young children who live in the community.

At the end of last year an Australian colleague and I ran joint fundraisers in Australia and the UK to raise funds to complete the building work at Nyambeshi Pre-School.

We reached almost 70% of our target, and work started at the end of February this year.

We have managed to complete all the brickwork, the concreting of the floors in the teacher’s room and the second classroom, the rendering of the walls in both those rooms, and have completed the veranda. The brandering is also complete. (brandering is a term for narrow strips of wood used to support ceilings and trusses).

We are thrilled with this progress.

We still need to install the ceiling boards, the doors and the windows in the teacher's room and the second classroom, which will cost about £1,200.
£800 has also been earmarked for desks and chairs for the second classroom and furnishing for the teacher's room once the building work is complete.

I have started a GoFundMe page to try and raise the necessary funding.

Any contributions will be gratefully received.

Mungu mbarikiwe.

The Rehema women all wanted to make a contribution to some ‘good works’ in rememberance of Amy and collected 300,000 shillings. They’ve selected a very needy project who do work with the mentally handicapped and the very poor, providing them with a safe place to live, as the benefactor. The project is run by Father Pendo and we went to visit him at the safe house on Sunday bringing gifts of 100kg maize flour, 27kg beans, 25kg sugar, soap, cooking oil, and Rehema toy lions and giraffes for the children. The Rehema women sang joyfully for Father Pendo and his charges, and we shared a soda and prayed together. Unfortunately, Father Pendo will retire at the end of this month due to ill health, he is suffering from advance Parkinson’s disease.

Yesterday we held a Memorial Service in memory of the founder of Rehema Cafe & Craft Shop, Amy Vink. It was an extremely sad day but also a day of thanksgiving as we celebrated the life of a truly inspirational person who has shaped the lives of so many women in the Mara region of NW Tanzania, especially the women in this project and all that benefitted from assistance in times of extreme need.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Amy Vink's passing. Amy started the Rehema Project and was a guiding light to so many in Musoma, Mara, especially the women of Rehema Project, and the many recipients of assistance through the project. May she rest in peace she is now with her saviour in glory. Jono's message posted earlier today: In God's perfect timing, after a life of love, service, determination and brilliant humour. Our Amy who burned so brightly, serving her children and family, her friends, our families, our communities and her Lord Jesus, has been welcomed into her heavenly home and eternal family. Great gain for her, and terrible loss for us, even as together we remain united in Christ.
I am immeasurably thankful to have been the other part of her whole. (Jono)
The whole family thank you for your love, prayers and support.
We are in awe in regards to how God has been with Amy and all of us, strengthening us in our grief. He loves.
