Then, he left Ecchu Seto Yaki in order to search for his own form, he became independent in Iwase, the area has an old and historical streetscape which Toyama proudly offers. he is always seeking totally new expressions of ceramic every day.
Keeping tradition for him is not only about keeping with the past, but also seeking their cutting-edge techniques that have never been done before, pursuing without any restriction and creating evolved objects which are not too far from what the predecessors created. He also thinks it is important to inherit the predecessors’ techniques and designs properly and with a sincere attitude.
For Shakunaga, preserving tradition means not only honoring the past but also pushing the boundaries of what is possible in ceramic art.
